BLACKPOOL REPORTS 2008-2009

DJ Campbell grabbed his third goal in four games to give 10-man Blackpool a deserved victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The visitors had goalkeeper Paul Rachubka dismissed after only three minutes when he brought down Shefki Kuqi on the edge of the box after the Finnish striker had intercepted a poor backpass from Ian Evatt.

Blackpool battled admirably despite being a man down and the winner came four minutes before half-time when John Oster clipped Roy O'Donovan in the box and Campbell stroked home the resulting penalty.

Palace did press forward after the break but were unable to break through a resolute Blackpool defence with Oster and Clint Hill wayward with efforts from distance.

Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock made three changes to the starting line-up from the midweek defeat to Charlton with Lee Hills, Victor Moses and Alan Lee all coming into the side.

Caretaker manager Tony Parkes also made three changes to the Blackpool side as on-loan midfielder Paul Marshall made his debut, while Danny Coid and Alex Baptiste also started.

The visitors started brightly but their cause was severely hampered when Rachubka was shown a red card with the game only three minutes old.

The loss of Rachubka meant that Marshall's debut was cut short as he was hauled off with keeper Matthew Gilks coming on.

And Gilks was called into action almost immediately when he had to tip over a powerful header from Kuqi.

Palace pressed forward in search of the opener and Oster found space inside the box but fired wide before Jose Fonte headed wide from Shaun Derry's corner.

Four minutes before half-time the home side were made to pay when Oster fouled O'Donovan and Campbell tucked away the penalty.

Crystal Palace began the second half brightly with Lee Hills and James Scowcroft both headed straight at Gilks before Fonte fired wide from the edge of the box.

The visitors were forcing Palace into shots from distance with Oster and Clint Hill off target.

As the game wore on Palace threw more players forward in a desperate attempt to get something out of the game but in truth they were poor and rarely threatened.

In injury-time Oster's dangerous corner was cleared by Baptiste with a host of Palace players lurking as Blackpool hung on to record only their second win in the last 10 games.
