TOMLINSON SETTLES FOR SIXTH
British long jump record holder Chris Tomlinson was back in sixth spot as he
tried to atone for his Commonwealth Games disappointment when he missed out on
the medals.
The Middlesbrough jumper produced a best of 7.78m in the opening round but
victory went to Ukranian Olekisy Lukashevich with 8.08m.
Elsewhere Ireland's Mark Carroll finished sixth in the 5000m in 13:42.87 while Britain's
Sam Haughian was ninth in 13:50.75.
There was also disappointment for Britain in the women's high jump as Susan Jones
bowed out of the competition early.
The Trafford jumper, who won Commonwealth Games silver in Manchester, sailed
over the first two heights.
But Jones needed three attempts to clear 1.89metres before failing with each
attempt when the bar was raised to 1.92m, with the damp conditions not helping.
