Third seed James Wade overcame a sloppy start to post a straight-sets victory over Northern Ireland's Brendan Dolan at the PDC World Championships on Tuesday night.
Wade should have lost the first set with Dolan squandering six darts to seal it, but once in front he ensured his progress was smooth.
"I didn't play as well as I should have done," he told Sky Sports afterwards.
"I'm massively disappointed in myself because of how I played.
"Brendan started well but he gave me the first set, if I'm honest. There was a lot of pressure on me and I'm glad to get through that but I didn't play as I should have done.''
Next up for Wade will be Tony Eccles.
Also on Tuesday evening, Colin Osborne piled in the highest checkout of the tournament so far as he progressed.
Osborne went out on 167 in the second set of his 3-0 victory over South African policeman Charles Losper.
A quarter-finalist two years ago, Osborne rained down the treble-figure checkouts - there also was a 121 to clinch the first set and a 110 to take the second.
He'll now face Dutchman Vincent van der Voort after he saw off Hungary's Nandor Bezzeg 3-0.
Van der Voort, arguably the fastest player in the tournament, didn't start well but after taking the first set 3-2 powered on to a quickfire win.
Earlier, Ronnie Baxter moved into the second round thanks to a 3-1 win over Marko Kantele.
Finland's Kantele started well with some excellent checkouts - 124, 164, 122, all finishing on the bull - helping him take the first set.
However, Baxter, a two-time BDO world finalist, soon found his range and stormed back and was always a step ahead after squaring the match.
Victory - sealed with a double-top, double-top finish - would have been a relief for Baxter who had lost in the first round in the three previous years at this event.
He now faces Denis Ovens in the second round with a place in the last 16 at stake.
