John MaGowan rolled back the years to pull off the biggest win of his career at the age of 67 by knocking Chris Mason out in the first round of the PDC World Championship.
The Irish pensioner strolled to a straight-sets 3-0 victory over Mason, who has struggled all season long.
MaGowan grabbed the first set by three legs to one and when he also took the second, Mason knew he was in deep trouble.
The veteran star also took the third set 3-1, finally clinching it on his fifth 'match dart'.
His finishing in that final leg was the only time he looked nervous, but he booked his second-round meeting with Dennis Priestley by nailing double nine.
MaGowan said: "It's unbelievable and I'm over the moon. It's my best win, certainly in a World Championship.
"I've been practising hard for this and I was ready to go. I've got a shed at home and have been in there ever since I qualified, and with plenty of local players too.
"It's sharpened me up and that showed."
Also on Monday, Jelle Klaasen produced a scintillating display as he stormed to a 3-0 first-round victory over Colin Lloyd.
The Dutchman allowed his opponent just one leg during a one-sided contest at Alexandra Palace to cruise through to the second week of the competition.
Lloyd just could not live with the 2006 BDO champion and has now crashed out at the first-round stage of the tournament in three of the last four years.
Sixth seed Adrian Lewis began his bid with a 3-1 victory over Australian Russell Stewart - but still wasn't happy.
The two-time quarter-finalist rattled in eight maximums and three ton-plus check-outs in an impressive display, but said: "I'm happy to win but should have shown Russell more respect.
"I lost my concentration at times and didn't treat the game right. I hit eight 180s but only averaged 86 and that's not good enough."
In the final match of the night Mervyn King won nine straight legs as he eased into the second round with a 3-0 victory over qualifier Shi Yongsheng.
'The King' was never troubled by his Chinese opponent as he booked a second-round clash with Mark Walsh.
In Monday night's preliminary-round encounter, Finland's Marko Kantele beat Filipino Lourence Ilagan by five legs to two to set up a clash with Ronnie Baxter on Tuesday.
