England's 13th seed and three-time finalist Peter Manley was stunned by Austrian qualifier Mensur Suljovic who progressed to the second round of the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship with a thrilling 3-2 victory at Alexandra Palace on Sunday night.
Manley cruised to the opening set but was put under pressure throughout and had no answer to Sulijovic who took the next two.
Manley fought back by winning all three legs in set four but it was Sulijovic who held his nerve in the decider and he will now face Mark Dudbridge in the next round.
Elsewhere, Raymond van Barneveld and Wayne Mardle progressed to the second round with comfortable straight-sets wins.
World number two Van Barneveld brushed aside Mark Stephenson 3-0 while Mardle defeated David Fatum by the same scoreline.
