Anastasia Dobromyslova's Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship dream was ended by Remco van Eijden on Sunday night.

Russian star Dobromyslova, the reigning Women's World Champion, was making her debut in the PDC tournament's preliminary round - and pushed the Dutch qualifier all the way.

Dobromyslova won the opening leg against the darts on double 16, only for van Eijden to hit back to win three in a row to lead 3-1.

The Russian took out a 13-darter to begin her comeback and levelled on double top, but van Eijden held his nerve to seal victory after taking a 4-3 lead on double top.

Dobromyslova missed one dart at double ten to stay in the game, but a tricky double 17 saw van Eijden set up a first round date with Tony Eccles.

"I'm disappointed but I wasn't good enough on the day," said Dobromyslova. "I felt comfortable on stage but we were both nervous in the first few legs and I felt some pressure.

"But this is just the start for me and I'll be better for the experience. I'll be travelling to all the PDC tournaments next year and hopefully I will qualify again."

Van Eijden admitted: "I've played most of the best players in the game but that was the hardest match I've ever had.

"Everyone wanted to see me lose but I settled down after the first couple of legs and got the win.

"Anastasia is a World Champion and a very good player, and she can play better than this, but she was under pressure and did well."

Earlier in the day, Andy Hamilton made an impressive start to his challenge by averaging 101.59 in a straight sets win over Michael Barnard.

The Stoke man, seeded seventh, has been cut to 20/1 for the tournament with sponsors Ladbrokes.com and takes on Andy Smith or Tony Ayres next Sunday in the second round.

Mark Walsh missed double 12 for an historic nine-darter during his 3-2 win over Jamie Caven, which would have been the first in the history of the PDC World Championship and earned him a £20,000 bonus.

Mark Dudbridge, the 2005 World Championship runner-up, was pushed all the way by qualifier Nick Fullwell before taking a 3-2 win, while Denis Ovens saw off Steve Maish 3-0.

Fleetwood's Wes Newton came from to defeat Danish number one Per Laursen and book his second round place, while Charles Losper was a preliminary round victory against Guyana's Sudesh Fitzgerald.

The South African's 6-4 win earns him a first round meeting with Colin Osborne on Tuesday.
