Qualifier Steve Grubb says he will be "living the dream" when he tackles Phil Taylor in the PDC World Championship - and reckons he has nothing to lose.
Publican Grubb has finally booked a berth in the tournament after two decades of playing the sport, and his reward is the biggest draw possible.
Grubb's name came out of the hat alongside top seed and 13-time champion Taylor in the first-round draw.
After coming within a game of making the World Championship 12 months ago, Grubb was thrilled to finally qualify for the showpiece event in darts, and pulling 'The Power' out of the hat made it a dream come true.
"That is the dream tie indeed, I'm living the dream," Grubb told Sky Sports News.
"After getting through on Saturday I was drained on Sunday, so I was looking forward to the draw.
"I said to my friends if you're going to live the dream then why not take on the legend.
"I got close last year, but lost the last game to Wayne Atwood, so I used the pain of that to get through this time."
Grubb has been playing and following darts for two decades, but although he has experienced the big events as a fan he has never played on TV.
Walking onto the stage at the Alexandra Palace, which will be full to see Taylor, in front of the Sky Sports cameras will be a big test of nerve.
"I've been to a lot of major TV tournaments but never as a player, I don't know how I'll handle it so we'll have to wait and see," Grubb added.
"I played county darts for Somerset in the mid to late 80s and played a lot of competitions, then I joined the PDC nearly three years ago. It's a hard place to get used to, Mervyn King is world class but even he has taken time to adapt."
Despite playing his idol, Grubb insists a massive upset cannot be totally ruled out, saying he is no pushover on the oche if he can find his best form on the stage.
He added: "He's (Taylor) got everything to lose, I haven't. No-one is expecting me to do anything, but believe you and me I can play this game.
"If I can hit a 15-dart leg with the throw, then you don't lose too many legs in darts doing that, but whether I can do it live on Sky who knows."
Grubb already has his nickname sorted out, while the all-important walk-on music, a crucial factor in darts, has still to be decided.
"Grubby is my nickname, it's all I've ever been known as, and all I'll ever be known as.
"My walk-on music is going to be between two. But I may bow to what everyone else thinks and have the remix to 'My Combine Harvester' by the Wurzels."
