Mardle has yet to truly deliver on the promise that has seen him labelled a future world champion, but there have been signs this year that he could be ready to challenge the best on a more consistent basis.

Always a flamboyant and confident character, Mardle is a three-time semi-finalist at the PDC World Championship but is yet to win a major PDC tournament.

Final appearances in the World Matchplay and Desert Classic (twice) have hinted at a breakthrough but the 34-year-old has frustratingly failed to find the level of consistency needed to regularly compete with the likes of Phil Taylor.

Known for his colourful shirts (hence the nickname), Mardle has been as high as fifth in the world rankings and his efforts in winning this year's Peachtree Open and Players' Championship in Germany show he has the talent to match the outlandish on-stage fashion sense.
