The second member - along with Raymond van Barneveld - of the 'old school' of Dutch players in the PDC, Scholten is yet to truly make his mark at the World Championship.
Now 42, the former UK Open champion made his debut at the Embassy back in 1992 and after switching to the PDC in 2000 reached the quarter-finals at the Circus Tavern once.
A former publican, Scholten has slipped from fourth to eighth in the PDC rankings in the last 12 months but showed he can still mix it with the best with victory in the Thailf Trophy in early June, beating Chris Mason in the final.
Sadly for a man of his talent, Scholten has spent much of his career in the shadow of fellow Dutchman van Barneveld, though the duo did link up in their early days on tour to win the PDC World Pairs Darts Championship in 1997.
