Heralded as a future world champion since emerging as Phil Taylor's protege, Lewis is yet to truly deliver on his undoubted talent as he awaits his first major title.
The 22-year-old was backed by Taylor (in the same way Eric Bristow had backed him) for three years before they went their separate ways and there have been plenty of signs in recent months that Lewis is finding his feet out on his own.
A quarter-final place at the World Grand Prix was followed by a run to the semi-finals at the World Matchplay and he will embark on his second year in the Premier League in 2008 by right after he was awarded a wildcard for the 2007 event.
Lewis shot to prominence in reaching the quarter-finals at the 2005 World Matchplay and has been a familiar face at major tournaments ever since.
He was given the nickname 'Jackpot' by his fellow players after 'winning' more than £40,000 while in Las Vegas for the 2005 Desert Classic. However, as Lewis was still under 21 at the time he was not allowed to keep his prize!
