2200: But, after missing three more match points, Part has taken his fifth chance, on double 10, and has picked up his third world title.
Darth Maple has been in great form throughout this event and, even though he missed a few doubles tonight, he has been the best player at Ally Pally during the event.
Credit must go to Shepherd for a tremendous performance throughout this tournament and we'll be seeing more of him in the future without doubt.
This final may not have had the drama of last year's match-up between Taylor and Van Barneveld, however this match was built purely on tension and kept the crowd on the edge of their seats throughout.
Thank you for joining us here at Sporting Life for this year's tournament. We hope you have enjoyed it as much as us and hopefully we will see you again next year.
2150: Part has just missed his first match point in the fourth leg of the ninth set and allowed Shepherd to take this set into a deciding leg.
2135: Just as we think Shepherd is about to produce a comeback, Part claims another set to further increase his advantage.
Once again the score in that set was 3-2 and the Canadian is getting ever closer to claiming his third world title.
2122: Shepherd has just produced a superb 160 check-out to win the final leg of the seventh set and pull a set closer to Part.
Young Gun showed tremendous bottle to do that after, once gain, after seeing Darth Maple miss doubles to pull further ahead.
A lot of the sets so far have come down to the final leg and that shows just how competitive this clash has been.
2109: Darth Maple has shown why he's been a world champion before to take the biggest leg of the match so far.
The Canadian has scored well throughout and now leads the young darter from Ramsgate 5-1.
2105: Part has missed numerous chances to win this set after holding a 2-0 lead.
Shepherd has won the last two legs on the spin and we are now set for a massive moment in this match.
2053: 'Young Gun' has battled back to claim his first set of the match with a 3-2 victory to make the score 4-1 to 'Darth Maple'.
The final leg was nailbiting stuff as Shepherd kept missing doubles, until, finally, he nestled the arrow firmly in double four.
Part could, and maybe in some people's eyes, should have extended his lead then. However, he is still in a superb position to claim the title.
2044: Shepherd has just claimed the first leg of the fifth set with a superb 106 checkout.
Could the comeback be starting?
2038: There was a bit of silliness in the second leg of this set as Part seemed upset with the crowd's behaviour while he was preparing to throw at double seven.
However, the Candian shook off his anger and sent his dart straight into the bed on his way to taking his second set in a row to love.
Darth Maple is in top form at the moment and is looking well set to claim his third world title, after winning the PDC title in 2003 and the BDO version in 1994.
2027: Part has stormed ahead and claimed the third set with ease 3-0.
For the first time tonight he has looked a cut above Shepherd and, at the moment, he is firmly in control of this match.
Can 'Young Gun' battle back and add another famous comeback to the notable ones we've already seen during this tournament?
2017: The second-set hasn't been such a classy affair, Part has won a leg in the 'madhouse', double one, and hit single 16 when he was trying to find the double eight bed in the fourth leg.
However, despite that the Canadian has still gone on to claim a 2-0 advantage after leaving Shepherd trailing in his wake in the final leg.
It is enthralling stuff at the moment but not because of the quality of the darting action.
2000: The first-set has been a very close affair with both players holding their throws, until the final leg when Part broke to claim the set 3-2.
Both players have looked in good form so far, although I don't think Shepherd will want to allow Part to build up too big an advantage.
However, we all know how quickly matches have been changing in this year's tournament.
1950: Shepherd is making his way to the oche with a new walk-on girl, the first time their has been a change in the line-up during the tournament.
However that shock is completely usurped by John Part's walk-on, where Darth Maple is accompanied to the oche by Princess Leia, Darth Vader and a George Lucas lookalike. What a way to start the night!
1942: Welcome to tonight's blog from the PDC World Championship final as Kirk Shepherd, the unhearlded qualifier from Ramsgate, takes on Canadian darts heavyweight John Part.
We will be keeping you up to date with all the latest action from Ally Pally as it happens.
