0000: And Mardle has done it, in a superb match he has grabbed the final set to seal a 4-3 victory.
He will now face Phil Taylor in the next round. I think everyone who has seen this match will need to have a chance to cool down. Hopefully we'll all be feeling refreshed for tomorrow's arrows action.
What a game, what a session, what a day!
2350: Maybe that prediction was totally wrong, Mardle has battled back and has levelled the scores at 3-3.
We may be approaching a new day but there's still plenty of life left in the 'Ally Pally' crowd. It truly has been a great night of darts.
2345: Wayne Mardle and Roland Scholten are currently in the middle of a cracker of a match late in the night.
Mardle took the first set with ease, however since then Scholten has been on top and currently leads 3-2.
Who will win, well I don't know for sure, but the logical money is with the Dutchman who is still in good spirits after a Christmas spent with Colin 'Jaws' Lloyd.
2230: After another epic encounter, Phil Taylor has survived again! He was taken the distance for the third straight match at this year's championships but once more showed nerves of steel when it mattered most. Alan Tabern put up a great fight but in the end had to bow to the 13-time champion in the final set, losing it by five legs to three.
2030: Panic over for Barney. He's wrapped up a 4-1 win and declared himself "very pleased" to have survived. "Physically you're nowhere," he said, when describing what it was like to play with the flu. "It took so much energy to hit every three darts." As for changing his darts - a move already criticised by many pundits - the Dutch ace said it was not a problem. "I did the same last year," he revealed. "I know what I can do with these darts."
2015: Is Van Barneveld rattled? He's chosen to change his darts ahead of the fifth set and has made in inauspicious start upon the resumption.
2010: We may well have just seen a major turning point in the Van Barneveld v Clark match. Barney raced into 3-0 lead and, aside from towelling his face down quite regularly, he was showing few signs of his recent illness. However, he's just missed six darts to close out the match and Clark is on the scoreboard at 3-1 down. His tactics must surely be to keep the Dutchman on the stage, under the lights, for as long as possible. Who knows what could happen then?
1745: Mark Dudbridge finished off the afternoon session with a 4-2 victory over Ronnie Baxter but then revealed he's been suffering with a shoulder problem. 'Flash' has been having massage on the joint and it's done the trick so far - he was brilliant in patches today, particularly in the first set. He's into the last 16 where he will meet James Wade. "I've just got to live with, I'll deal with it again," he said after coming off stage. And apparently Dudbridge isn't the only player with a problem. Reigning champion Raymond van Barneveld is believed to have spent the Christmas period largely in bed due to flu. How will that affect his performance in the opening match of tonight's session? The Dutchman is up against Jason Clark. A major shock could be on the cards if Barney is still under the weather.
1635: Andy Hamilton has just made a shock exit from the tournament, falling 4-1 to Alex Roy who looked in great nick. The nature of the shock is summed up by Betfair's trading report on the match which shows Hamilton was backed at 1.25 - or 1/4 - before slipping to defeat. More than £200,000 was traded at prices between 1.3 and 1.25 on Hamilton, so there will be plenty of unhappy punters out there in the big wide world.
1545: Tony Eccles has this afternoon produced what has to be the fightback of the tournament so far. The north-east thrower found himself 3-0 down to Essex's Steve Maish but hit back to some style to secure a 4-3 victory in round two. His fghting spirit got the crowd inside the Ally Pally really revved up and the gutted Maish was left to reflect on what might have been. Eccles goes through to meet Adrian Lewis in the last 16 and will know whatever happens in that match that he'll always have at least one happy memory of playing at this great arena.
