Painter was involved in one of the all-time classics here back in 2004 when he lost a thrilling final 7-6 to Phil Taylor.

'The Artist' led 4-1 but eventually was beaten in a final-leg shoot-out at the end of an epic encounter.

And he has never really built on that superb run with his major tournament results particularly disappointing this year 2006, although he was a finalist at the lesser Ireland Open.

A big Ipswich Town FC fan, Painter will be looking to those memories of three years ago to inspire him once more.
