Picture Ray van Barneveld - blitzed Riko Vonck.

BARNEY WIN A GREAT RESULT FOR ALL

2215: From being well behind schedule after some emotionally draining matches earlier today, we're now back on time for a reasonable finish after Ray van Barneveld blitzed fellow Dutchman Riko Vonck 4-0 in double quick time.

In fact if you went for a toilet break after Scholten's dramatic victory, you would have probably missed the Dutchman's ruthless display which was simply awe-inspiring to watch.

Our darts tipster Reece Killworth, who backed van Barneveld to go all the way, will be much more relaxed after that than he was last week when his man came within a whisker of a second-round exit.

2135: As far as Circus Tavern classics go, this is right up there with the best.

This time Scholten is the man to fight his way through a sudden death shoot-out to beat Roy 4-3 and advance to the third round but these kind of matches are almost becoming the norm.

Probably one of the best matches of all time was Ray van Barneveld's epic victory over Colin Lloyd last week and the iconic Dutchman is next in action against hot prospect Riko Vonck.

2119: Sholten doesn't want to laugh right now but he's trying his best.

Having wasted three darts to win the match when leading 2-1 in legs in the final set, he then watched Roy miss two of his own before dropping his third to the floor.

After a little bit of banter between the men, Roy picked the arrow off the floor before nailing it into the middle of the required double to force sudden death.

He took one look at his Dutch opponent, who had a big smile on his face, and gave him a big hug. Who says true sportsmen are a dying breed.

2105: The Tripod has become the latest player to launch a dramatic turnaround in this year's World Championships having taken his match with the Ace of Hearts into a deciding set despite trailing 3-1.

It's now the fifth second-round clash to go the distance and just underlines what a fabulous tournament this has been with still plenty of darts still to play.

I just hope we haven't used up all the excitment so soon!

1955: For a moment then I thought John Cena was about to make a shock guest appearence here in Purfleet.

For those of you who have no idea what I'm on about, American wrestler John Cena is the current WWE Champion and just then his theme tune bellowed out around the Circus Tavern.

However it was Alex Roy who emerged into the arena for his match with popular Dutchman Roland Scholten and if this one is anything like what's gone before, we should be in for some more heart-stopping entertainment.

1940: "The Pieman" Andy Smith, who was one of the hot favourites to land our sweatwatch award, has been dumped out 4-2 by Andy Jenkins.

I think if the Pieman wants to last the distance next year and in any other major tournament he must take a lesson from those 'healthier' younger players and improve his fitness and diet.

You can't be that fat and hope to win anything in any sport - especially darts! Then again, there was Andy Fordham!

1800: In another rollarcoaster contest this afternoon, Colin Osborne has won his second-round match with Wes Newton 4-2 despite a brave comeback from the challenger.

Osborne started like a train to take the opening two sets but had to display resolve to reach the next stage having been pegged back to 2-2 in such a close encounter.

1607: Priestley has done it! He's beaten Laursen and nobody here can quite believe the drama that's unfolded before their eyes this afternoon!

The crowd certainly can't believe it, not even Priestley can judging by his reaction and as for me - well I'm almost speechless.

What I can say is that Laursen missed eight shots at a double to win this match and he must be totally dejected right now. It just goes to show that in darts you must never give up - especially if your opponents suffers from doubles disease.

1600: It's simply wilds scenes at the Circus Tavern where Dennis "The Menace" Priestley has fought back from the death to take his match with Per Laursen into a deciding set.

He's going absolutely crazy on the stage after his dart found the middle of the double four and how the crowd are responding to their long time favourite!

Laursen has his head in his hands and wonders how this match slipped away having been 3-1 up and missed a shot at a double to win.
