The Canadian has been World Champion three times before during his illustrious career and last took the sport's top prize in 2008 with victory over Kirk Shepherd in the tournament's first outing at Alexandra Palace.

Now Part is looking to Star Wars for inspiration and hopes his 'Darth Maple' character can help him use the Force to stand on top of the darting galaxy.

"I just try to be me and the Darth Maple thing is kind of me," he told sportinglife.com.

"There's some sort of darkness but there's always good behind it.

"You have to be a bad guy to beat people as you can't be a nice guy and still beat these guys.

"Anyone that says different is a liar.

"Star Wars is about destiny and you have to believe this is my path and I'll take it.

"I think it really could be my destiny to win this year but I don't know as destiny can be funny.

"It's certainly my destiny to do some more damage before I'm done that's for sure."

Part lost 5-4 to James Wade last year in a classic semi-final at Ally Pally.

The 46-year-old bounced back from the verge of going 4-1 down to lead 4-3 but there was another twist as Wade recovered to clinch the victory and a spot in the last four by taking out 85 in the deciding leg.

"I really had a great time last year at the World Championship," Part, who faces Joe Cullen in the first round this time, added.

"I was left hanging there at double top to get into the semis in the deciding leg so I feel like 'OK let's get back at it again'.

"I look back on the whole game as I didn't play that well in the first few sets.

"To get what I did get against a player of the quality of James I give myself credit.

"But I don't give myself credit as I had to play that good even to get back into it and if I played the whole match more effectively I wouldn't be in that situation."
