PYBUS QUITS AFTER PAKISTAN CUP FLOP

Richard Pybus has stepped aside as Pakistan
coach following their failure to reach the Super Six stage of the World Cup.
The 42-year-old has been disappointed by certain players' reluctance to heed
his advice and believes it is time for someone else to take the reins.
The Pakistan Cricket Board did not stand in his way, and spokesman Samiul
Hasan told PA International: "Pybus' contract, like many others, ran until the
end of the World Cup and all these contracts were renewable subject to their
performance, so our position is very clear.
"We thank him for his services and hard work for the Pakistan team but there
were many factors as to why the results weren't good."
Pybus explained his reasoning for resigning, telling The News International:
"I think I can still contribute to Pakistan cricket, but it is time to move on
and let someone else do the job.
"I would prefer to spend quality time with my daughter."
Pakistan managed just two victories, over minnows Namibia and Holland, at the
tournament in South Africa, and the coach felt that some of the team had shown a
distinct lack of passion and commitment.
"I tried my best but it was difficult. Some guys wanted to learn, but some
were not interested at all," he said.
"I won't name any individual, but they get to the park and are part of the
team but not of the plan.
"They have old habits they don't want to change. There's a reluctance to
learn and change."
