STREAK: ENGLAND DECISION COST THEM

By PA International staff

Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak reckoned England's decision not to travel to Harare cost them a place in the Super Six stage of the World Cup.

Zimbabwe progressed to the latter stages after their Pool A match with Pakistan was abandoned because of rain, giving them the two points they needed to go through at England's expense.

"We are elated to be through to the Super Six and it's not in our hands what happened with the weather," said Streak.

"Unfortunately England didn't come and play and those two factors have obviously played a big part in us getting through to the Super Six.

"Of course you would sympathise with them (England) but at the end of the day they didn't come to play the match and I suppose they will be looking back as it has cost them.

"The possibility of them coming and playing that match could have been the difference," he added.

Pakistan skipper Waqar Younis was in agreement.

"It's sad. They paid for what they did not do. That's the way it is, that's the way they decided and they suffered because of that," he said.

Tuesday's result meant it was the first time Pakistan have failed to progress beyond the first stage since the inaugural tournament in 1975 and Waqar hinted at changes in the Pakistan camp.

It has been a disappointing World Cup campaign for them, with just two victories against Holland and Namibia.

"We're disappointed. It has been a disappointing tournament starting from the game against Australia.

"We played poorly even against Namibia and Holland and that's what we have to pay for.

"There will be a few changes in the team after this. A new generation has to come in and take over by the next World Cup."
