Klaas van Noortwijk produced an unbeaten 134 from 129 balls to lead Holland to
their first one-day international victory - a 64-run win against Namibia at the
Goodyear Park in Bloemfontein.
Van Noortwijk batted for three hours to fire the Dutch to their highest ever
total in a World Cup match.
Their 314 for four eclipsed the previous best tally of 230 against England in
Peshawar in 1996.
Van Noortwijk came to the crease after the dismissal of Edgar Schiferli and,
along with opener Feiko Kloppenburg, produced the highest ever partnership for
Holland in a World Cup match in putting on 228 for the second wicket.
Kloppenburg cracked six boundaries and four sixes on his way to a brilliant
121 off 142 balls before being caught by Melt van Schoor off Gerrie Snyman in
the 44th over.
With the two big scores from Noortwijk and Kloppenburg, Holland also became
the first team in the tournament to score two centuries in one game.
Noortwijk's score is also the highest individual score for a Dutch player at
the World Cup.
Then Kloppenburg later produced a match-winning performance with the ball to take
four wickets for 42 runs as the Namibians put on a brave response before being
bowled out with four overs to spare.
Noortwijk, who was overcome by emotions and was close to tears after his
sterling innings said he was very delighted with his performance.
"It was great, a very emotional and special moment for me," he said later.
He had hobbled through the final overs of his innings after getting cramps.
