GANGULY PLANNING FOR ENGLAND CLASH

India captain Saurav Ganguly expressed his pleasure with the 180-run victory
over Namibia, but warned his side would have to be at their best if they are to
beat England and qualify for the next round of the tournament.
England, India and Pakistan are all vying for two places in the second round
of the World Cup, with India's games against England and Pakistan likely to
decide who will go through with defending champions Australia.
England's victory over Pakistan in Cape Town had made India sit up
and take notice.
"I thought they played very well in the last few games," Ganguly said. "But
we generally seem to play well against England. They are obviously a good side
and we need to be up for it. They were very impressive against Pakistan."
Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar both scored centuries as India powered to a
total of 311 for two.
But their bowlers produced an even more impressive display with Yuvraj Singh
taking four for six to clean up the Namibian tail.
Ganguly said his innings of 112 unbeaten runs was especially important to him
given his recent lean run.
"I wanted to spend as much time in the centre as possible, my first 30 runs
were very important to me as I knew if I got there then the flow would come
back," he said.
"It was nice to spend time and Sachin was playing well so there was very
little pressure on me."
Namibia captain Deon Kotze was disappointed with his side's performance but
paid homage to Tendulkar's innings.
He said: "It was simply a case that we came up against the best batsman in
the world.
"We didn't field and bowl as well as we would have liked, but when Sachin is
batting like that, he is magnificent."
