Rose to prominence at the Singapore Challenge competition in 1999 where he hit an unbeaten 51 against Zimbabwe in only his second ODI appearance before scoring 46 in the following match against India.
Three days later in the final he smashed the Indian bowlers for 124 off only 93 deliveries with nine fours and
eight sixes.
From then on, Powell was seen as a special talent - and although he has been in and out of the one-day team because of inconsistent form, his recent performances in India suggest he is getting back to his best.
