CRICKET WORLD CUP ENGLAND
Picture Michael Vaughan - had a fantastic 2002.

MICHAEL VAUGHAN

Born: 29.10.74
One-day internationals: 21
Batting: Right Hand (Avge: 22.36)
Bowling: Right Hand Off Breaks (Avge: 25.12)
Catches: 4

Despite his obvious suitability to Test cricket, Vaughan still seemed a strange one-day pick when first selected.

But any doubts over his place have emphatically been cast away over the past year.

Vaughan has not only proved he has the application to grind out runs and survive but that he can score them at a cracking rate, and with a great deal of elegance, when required.

Some of his one-day performances, particularly for Yorkshire, have been outstanding.

On the back of a prolific 2002, Vaughan is full of confidence and could be one of the stars of this World Cup.

Scored more Test runs in the last year than anybody else, and three centuries led to him being named the Man of the Ashes Series.

Has been suffering some discomfort from a knee injury, but will be hoping to carry that brilliant Ashes form into this tournament.

His class and attacking talents could make him a real star in this World Cup.
