Statistically speaking Knight remains one of England's best one-day batsmen of all time.

His problem, however, is that he seems to lose form at the most inopportune times.

Despite an excellent previous season, the Warwickshire opener was unceremoniously dumped before the last World Cup - and then last season he remained a fixture in the side despite some modest returns.

Conversely his first-class record was outstanding - but he seems out of favour on the Test front these days.

Like Marcus Trescothick, at his best Knight can destroy an attack - but their like-for-like opening partnership has not always worked to England's advantage.
