The left-hander is reckoned by many to be the best one-day batsman in the world - for the way he paces an innings, his shot placement and his rotation of the strike.
He combined these qualities in his classic 108 not out to win the mid-winter international against Pakistan at Colonial Stadium in Melbourne.
He is also a useful occasional slow left-arm wrist spinner.
One weakness is against genuine pace, and has struggled in the past against the short ball.
Despite that flaw is still one of the best one-day players around - great at manipulating the scoreboard, particularly in the crucial middle part of an innings.
