India v Kenya

India captain Sourav Ganguly's unbeaten hundred in two excellent partnerships helped his team recover from a perilous position to post an easy six-wicket victory over Kenya in the Super Six World Cup day-night clash at Newlands.

An 84-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Ganguly (107no) and Rahul Dravid laid the platform, before the captain and Yuvraj Singh (58no) made sure of the win with a breath-taking unbroken 118-run stand off only 113 balls.

Singh, who hit seven fours off 64 balls, nonchalantly knocked the ball around from the word go. But it was Ganguly's night, and after a hesitant start he hit 11 fours and two sixes off 120 balls.

It was India's fifth win in succession in the tournament since they lost to Australia at Centurion on the second weekend.

They had to dig deep, however, to overcome a committed and determined Kenya side who fought to the last.

Kenya's fielding, in sharp contrast to India's earlier in the day, was stunning.

Defending a competitive total of 225 for six, the Kenyans took three early wickets - Virender Sehwag, Mohammed Kaif and the priceless one of Sachin Tendulkar - in the first 10 overs to really put themselves in a position to win the game.

New-ball bowler Thomas Odoyo struck twice early on as India struggled to 24 for three in the ninth over.

But the Kenyans could not find the knockout punch, and Ganguly and Dravid resurrected the innings.

They batted with care but never allowed the run rate to get out of control.

Dravid took 73 balls over his 32 but was intent on making sure the rot was stopped.

Ganguly kept the scoreboard ticking along, but it was Yuvraj who finished the job with his captain.

Kenya's batsmen had taken advantage of some shocking fielding from the Indian fielders.

The player who took most advantage from the Indian fielding was opener Kennedy Obuya who was dropped three times (on 11, 18 and 72) before he was finally bowled by Harbhajan Singh for 79, having hit six fours and two sixes off 134 balls.

He batted slowly and with a lot of luck -but hit several glorious boundaries, including two brilliant straight sixes of the spinners.

Obuya received great support from fellow opener Ravindu Shah (34) until the latter was run out to end a 75-run opening partnership.
