Built for the 2007 World Cup and named after Antigua's most famous player, the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium replaces the Recreation Ground as the island's major venue.
ICC inspectors gave the stadium 'A' grade approval in May 2006 and that confirmed its status as a World Cup venue.
The new ground is dominated by the imposing five-storey Southern Stand which includes the pavilion and corporate suites. Facing that is the slightly smaller Northern Stand, while the other two sides of the ground have far smaller terraces to maintain the atmosphere of a traditional Caribbean cricket ground.
