Luuk van Troost (c)

  • Born: 28.12.1969
  • ODIs: 21
  • Role: All-rounder
  • Bat: Left-hand
  • Average: 17.37
  • Strike-Rate: 62.47
  • Bowl: Left-arm medium
  • Average: 73.66
  • Economy: 5.97

Van Troost took over the Dutch captaincy at the start of 2003 after making his debut the year before. His potentially destructive batting is perhaps not best represented by his ODI average, but a figure of 49.16 in first class cricket is much more respectable. Perhaps more useful to the side is his left-arm medium bowling, which gives the Dutch bowling attack some useful variation.

Ryan ten Doeschate

  • Born: 30.06.1980
  • ODIs: 11
  • Role: All-rounder
  • Bat: Right-hand
  • Average: 55.12
  • Strike-Rate: 93.23
  • Bowl: Rt-arm fast-med
  • Average: 22.10
  • Economy: 5.23

Born in Port Elizabeth, ten Doeschate was discovered by Essex on a tour of South Africa in 2003, his big hitting helped them to the National League title in 2006, and his medium-fast bowling has the nack of picking up wickets at vital times. His international career exploded into life in the 2006 Inter-Continental Cup with tournament record 256 not out against Canada.

Bas Zuiderent

  • Born: 03.03.1977
  • ODIs: 26
  • Role: Opening batsman
  • Bat: Right-hand
  • Average: 21.52
  • Strike-Rate: 57.09
  • Bowl: Right-arm medium
  • Average: n/a
  • Economy: n/a

Perhaps Holland’s best batsman behind ten Doeschate, Zuiderent has four ODI fifties under his, including one against England in the 1996 World Cup. After a spell in South Africa, Zuiderent signed for Sussex in 1999, and was part of the squad that won the County Championship in 2003. Zuiderent is also a useful close fielder.

Adeel Raja

  • Born: 15.08.1980
  • ODIs: 7
  • Role: All-rounder
  • Bat: Right-hand
  • Average: 2.75
  • Strike-Rate: 17.46
  • Bowl: Right-arm offspin
  • Average: 29.44
  • Economy: 5.28

Born in the Punjab, off-spinning all-rounder Raja made his ODI debut back in the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka. Was on the ugly end of a Shahid Afridi assault in that tournament, but has matured into one of Holland’s most dependable performers. Is more than handy with the bat, and has opened for his country on occassions.

Tim de Leede

  • Born: 25.01.1968
  • ODIs: 26
  • Role: All-rounder
  • Bat: Right-hand
  • Average: 16.59
  • Strike-Rate: 64.03
  • Bowl: Right-arm medium
  • Average: 34.11
  • Economy: 5.16

The elder statesman and former captain of the Dutch side, De Leede has been on the books of Northants, Sussex and Surrey but never quite managed to establish himself in the county game. An all-round cricketer, he scores at a decent rate, bowls good variations with his medium pace and is more than handy in the field.

Eric Szwarcsynski

  • Born: 13.02.1983
  • ODIs: 4
  • Role: Batsman
  • Bat: Right-hand
  • Average: 35.66
  • Strike-Rate: 75.88
  • Bowl: n/a
  • Average: n/a
  • Economy: n/a

Another Netherlands player born in South Africa, Szwarczynski, is a batsman who began his career as an opener but has moved down the order in recent times, Szwarczynski is in good form coming into the World Cup. He notched up his first ODI fifty against Ireland in the World Cricket League, relying on his trademark careful timing and placing, rather than power.

Alex Kervezee

  • Born: 11.09.1989
  • ODIs: 10
  • Role: Batsman
  • Bat: Right-hand
  • Average: 22.28
  • Strike-Rate: 68.42
  • Bowl: Right-arm medium
  • Average: n/a
  • Economy: n/a

The rising star of Dutch cricket, Kervezee made his international debut aged just 15, and impressed Worcestershire enough to give him a two-year contract at the end of the 2006 season. At just 17 years of age, Kervezee – born in Namibia - is already a classy batsman, who can also send down useful medium-pacers when needed.

Daan van Bunge

  • Born: 19.10.1982
  • ODIs: 21
  • Role: All-rounder
  • Bat: Right-hand
  • Average: 20.82
  • Strike-Rate: 60.51
  • Bowl: Right-arm legspin
  • Average: 22.11
  • Economy: 5.52

An offspinning all-rounder, van Buinge is part of a talented cricketing family, with brothers Job and Coen also playing for Vordent in Holland. Van Bunge has some impressive scalps under his belt in ODIs, hitting 62 against South Africa and taking the wickets of Michael Vaughan and Andrew Flintoff against England.

Darron Reekers

  • Born: 26.05.1973
  • ODIs: 9
  • Role: All-rounder
  • Bat: Right-hand
  • Average: 33.88
  • Strike-Rate: 132.03
  • Bowl: Right-arm medium
  • Average: 23.58
  • Economy: 3.37

Perhaps Holland’s premier all-rounder, New Zealand born Reekers is the man that tries to get the Dutch off to quick starts with strong hitting at the top of the order. He also sends down dangerous quickish away-swingers, and once claimed a season average of 65 with the bat and 17 with the ball in the Dutch League.

Edgar Schiferli

  • Born: 17.05.1976
  • ODIs: 13
  • Role: All-rounder
  • Bat: Right-hand
  • Average: 9.30
  • Strike-Rate: 62.41
  • Bowl: Rt-arm med-fast
  • Average: 60.25
  • Economy: 5.41

Schiferli likes to attack with bat and ball. He is pacy with the latter and a big-hitter when he gets to the middle, who can take a bowling attack to pieces when in the mood. His ODI returns are relatively modest, and he has been in and out of Holland's plans since first figuring for the national side in 1995.

Jeroen Smits

  • Born: 21.06.1972
  • ODIs: 19
  • Role: Wicketkeeper
  • Bat: Right-hand
  • Average: 18.60
  • Strike-Rate: 41.51
  • Bowl: n/a
  • Average: n/a
  • Economy: n/a

For many years the understudy to long-time Netherlands wicketkeeper Reinout Scholte, Smits has finally cemented a place for himself in the national side. He made his debut for the Dutch side in 1994, but since then has made just 14 ODI appearances and seven in the ICC Trophy.

Billy Stelling

  • Born: 30.06.1969
  • ODIs: 9
  • Role: All-rounder
  • Bat: Right-hand
  • Average: 39.75
  • Strike-Rate: 67.65
  • Bowl: Rt-arm fast-med
  • Average: 27.73
  • Economy: 5.69

Born in Cape Town, Stelling began his career with Western Province, before moving to England in 1999, playing for Leicestershire and Berkshire. An experienced all-rounder who is thought of as the ‘finisher’ of the Dutch side, the World Cup could well be his last hurrah in international cricket.

Mark Jonkman

  • Born: 20.03.1986
  • ODIs: 4
  • Role: Bowler
  • Bat: Right-hand
  • Average: 31
  • Strike-Rate: 81.57
  • Bowl: Rt-arm fast-med
  • Average: 22.60
  • Economy: 4.34

Another for the future, Jonkman only has a handful of appearances under his belt and may not start the World Cup but has an impressive future if those taking care of his development are to be believed. Has genuine pace, so much so that Holland's bowling coach thinks he could be the quickest bowler outside of the Test arena.

Peter Borren

  • Born: 21.08.1983
  • ODIs: 10
  • Role: Bowler
  • Bat: Right-hand
  • Average: 11.62
  • Strike-Rate: 76.22
  • Bowl: Right-arm medium
  • Average: 34.00
  • Economy: 6.03

Former New Zealand Under-19 player Borren had the misfortune to make his ODI debut in the match which saw Sri Lanka rack up a world record 443 for nine at Amstelveen last summer. His personal damage ran to one for 94 in his 10 overs - and he managed to nick only two runs back with the bat as Holland lost by 195. Borren is capable of better.

Mohammad Kashif

  • Born: 03.12.1984
  • ODIs: 6
  • Role: Bowler
  • Bat: Right-hand
  • Average: 0.50
  • Strike-Rate: 7.14
  • Bowl: Left-arm slow
  • Average: 37.33
  • Economy: 5.89

Currently Holland's second spinner behind Adeel Raja, Kashif could nonetheless play a role in the tournament if the Dutch play two spinners. His quality and potential is without doubt, proved by his hat-trick against Canada in the 2006 Intercontinental Cup. Is also a quick and energetic fielder.
