vaughan wanted help - boycott
Vaughan - wanted Boycott's help.
Former England captain Geoffrey Boycott has claimed an England captain sought him out for advice over the winter but was "frightened" coach Duncan Fletcher would find out.
Boycott made the revelations in an interview with the Daily Telegraph after it was announced Fletcher would be standing down as England coach.
Boycott felt Fletcher had too much power over the players and that had a detrimental effect on the team.
Boycott said: "This winter I had a captain of England request to have dinner with me to get my help with his batting, but he said he mustn't be seen with me - it must, quote, 'be under the radar'.
"I'm saying, 'what?' The captain of England is frightened of being seen with a famous ex-player because he knows that ex-player is not liked by the coach.
"Because I have been critical of the coach in the past he is now frightened to have dinner with me. What a farcical situation.
"He has had that much power they are afraid to talk to you. That is wrong, that is not good for the team."
England and Yorkshire legend Boycott also criticised Fletcher for the way he did not face the music after the humiliating defeat by South Africa on Tuesday.
"What did he (Fletcher) do when England went out of the World Cup? He went and played golf with the captain. Surely he had to front it up. It is almost as if he is saying 'Go to hell the English public, I will write a book one day and make a load of money'.
"The other thing is management. Andrew Flintoff's drinking off the field should have been sorted out long ago. Also we have Steve Harmison, who has all the equipment to be the best in the world, but we have allowed him to bowl sloppily and get disenchanted."
