Bray and Porterfield set Ireland's platform.

  • Powerplay overs in red.

Ireland (243 for seven) beat Bangladesh (169 all out) by 74 runs
Great win for Ireland, and they now have full ODI status after taking out two Test-class opponents in this World Cup. They've bounced back admirably from the thrashing by Australia to record a comprehensive victory over Bangladesh - who have beaten India and South Africa here remember. Ireland were better in all departments, but most significant were the captaincy and fielding where the gulf was huge.

    WICKET!
    Habibul Bashar b Johnston 32 (57)

It's all over, and Ireland have recorded a hugely significant victory in their cricketing development. It's a fitting end as Johnston gets the better of Bashar just as he has throughout the game. Johnston's captaincy has been a class above Bashar's here, and that's a key reason for this victory.

Over 41: Hossain prods at the first ball and is then beaten by the last ball of the over, a wicket-maiden for McCallan.
    Bangladesh 169/9 (RR: 4.12): Bashar 32* (55), Hossain 0* (2)
Bangladesh need 75 runs to win from 54 balls at 8.33 runs per over.

Hossain is the last man in for Bangladesh. Bashar was absolutely furious at that ill-judged shot from Razzak.

    WICKET!
    Abdur Razzak b McCallan 11 (21)

Razzak has three attempts at smashing the cover off the ball to no effect. The fourth time he tries it the ball is a little quicker and a little fuller and knocks back leg stump. Ireland one ball away now, and that was another shrewd bowling change from Johnston.

McCallan back into the attack looking to finish this game off.

Over 40: Three singles from the first four balls and then a wide down the legside from Johnston. Another legside wide from Johnston, and the Irish are tiring dramatically here. They should get over the finish line comfortably, but they are wilting. Bashar cuts the last ball of the over to the point boundary, and just maybe there's a sting in the tail.
    Bangladesh 169/8 (RR: 4.23): Bashar 32* (55), Razzak 11* (17)
Bangladesh need 76 runs to win from 10 overs at 7.50 runs per over.

Johnston back into the attack for Ireland.

Over 39: Razzak works to leg for a single, and Bashar hits down the ground for another three balls later. A big lbw shout against Razzak doesn't interest Bowden, perhaps because it pitched a foot outside leg. Razzak gets a single from the final ball of the over, but it's another good one for Ireland.
    Bangladesh 160/8 (RR: 4.10): Bashar 27* (51), Razzak 9* (15)
Bangladesh need 84 runs to win from 11 overs at 7.64 runs per over.

Over 38: Bashar gets his first boundary in suitably streaky fashion, a genuine edge to third-man. He gets another single with a carve to the third-man fielder, and Langford-Smith bowls a wide to the left-handed Razzak. Razzak pulls the next ball to deep square-leg for a single. Another wide follows, and Langford-Smith is tiring here. But no matter, because his work is done. A cracking spell of bowling.
    Bangladesh 157/8 (RR: 4.13): Bashar 26* (48), Razzak 7* (12)
Bangladesh need 87 runs to win from 12 overs at 7.25 runs per over.

Over 37: The batsmen get through for a leg-bye from the first ball of Botha's over, and Razzak bunts the second down the ground for a single. Bashar works to leg for another single, and Razzak follows suit. Bashar gets a single from the final ball of the over, but that's not enough for Bangladesh at this stage.
    Bangladesh 149/8 (RR: 4.03): Bashar 21* (43), Razzak 6* (11)
Bangladesh need 95 runs to win from 13 overs at 7.30 runs per over.

Over 36: Razzak swings to leg for a single, and Bashar works to long-leg for another. Over seven an over needed now. Razzak rides the bounce well to get the ball into the legside for another single, and Bashar pulls to square-leg for another. Four singles from the over - not enough for the Tigers.
    Bangladesh 144/8 (RR: 4.00): Bashar 19* (39), Razzak 4* (9)
Bangladesh need 100 runs to win from 14 overs at 7.14 runs per over.

Over 35: Big stumping shout from Niall O'Brien, but Bucknor sees no need to go to the third umpire. Replays suggest he perhaps should have - Razzak probably just got his foot down in time, but it was mighty close. Just a single from that Botha over, and it's just getting tougher for Bangladesh. Who are in plenty of 'Botha'. My word, that's awful.
    Bangladesh 140/8 (RR: 4.00): Bashar 17* (36), Razzak 2* (6)
Bangladesh need 104 runs to win from 15 overs at 6.93 runs per over.

Botha is back into the attack.

Over 34: Razzak squirts his first ball to third-man for a single, and Bashar defends the final ball.
    Bangladesh 139/8 (RR: 4.09): Bashar 17* (35), Razzak 1* (1)
Bangladesh need 105 runs to win from 16 overs at 6.56 runs per over.

Razzak is the new batsman for Bangladesh. Surely the game is up.

    WICKET!
    Mohammad Rafique c Johnston b Langford-Smith 2 (9)

Another wicket falls, as Rafique tamely bunts the ball into the legside as Langford-Smith cramps him for room. Johnston takes a good tumbling catch at midwicket, covering good ground to his left. The chicken dance and the Langford-Smith shuffle make an appearance after that wicket. Two more wickets needed for Ireland.

Over 33: Bashar drives a floated, teasing delivery from McCallan to deep cover for a single, and Rafique adds another in the same area. A brilliant diving stop from Porterfield at midwicket keeps Bashar down at McCallan's end. Great stuff, and a marked contrast to Bangladesh's fielding efforts earlier in the day.
    Bangladesh 138/7 (RR: 4.18): Bashar 17* (34), Rafique 2* (5)
Bangladesh need 106 runs to win from 17 overs at 6.24 runs per over.

Over 32: Rafique cuts hard to deep point for a single to get off the mark, and Bashar gets another with a pull shot.
    Bangladesh 136/7 (RR: 4.25): Bashar 16* (30), Rafique 1* (3)
Bangladesh need 108 runs to win from 18 overs at 6.00 runs per over.

Rafique is the new batsman. Certainly a dangerous customer, capable of big shots. He has a Test century to his name, lest we forget.

    WICKET!
    Mashrafe Mortaza c & b Langford-Smith 0 (3)

And he does get the wicket! It's not Bashar, but any wicket's a good wicket at this stage. It's a clever slower ball from Langford-Smith, and Mortaza just chips it straight back to the bowler. Just three wickets needed now for Ireland.

Langford-Smith is back into the attack. He was nice and tidy first up, but perhaps owes his side a wicket after dropping Bashar when he had just four runs to his name.

Over 31: The final ball of the over flicks off Mortaza's pads for two leg-byes, but McCallan got his reward in that over for staying positive despite back-to-back boundaries.
    Bangladesh 133/6 (RR: 4.29): Bashar 14* (28), Mortaza 0* (2)
Bangladesh need 111 runs to win from 19 overs at 5.84 runs per over.

Mortaza is the new batsman, coming to the crease while the players have a drink.

    WICKET!
    Mushfiqur Rahim b McCallan 16 (26)

Bashar gets a single and then Rahim hits over the top for four, and then adding another boundary through the covers off the back foot. But McCallan gets his revenge, spinning one through the young keeper's defences and knocking back the leg stump. Rahim whacks his bat into the turf in disgust and almost takes out his opposite number Niall O'Brien. O'Brien doesn't seem to mind though, knowing that is a big wicket for the Irish, just as Bangladesh were getting back into the game.

Over 30: Bashar top-edges a pull shot but finds a safe part of the ground for a single. Rahim cuts to deep point for two runs, and Bangladesh are halfway to their target. But they are five wickets down, and the required rate creeps above a run a ball for the first time.
    Bangladesh 122/5 (RR: 4.07): Bashar 13* (27), Rahim 8* (23)
Bangladesh need 122 runs to win from 20 overs at 6.10 runs per over.

Rankin is back for his third spell. Again, Johnston has brought him on in search of a breakthrough. Bold captaincy.

Over 29: Sensible batting from these two, milking the offspin of McCallan for five singles, keeping the run-rate in check without taking risks.
    Bangladesh 119/5 (RR: 4.10): Bashar 12* (25), Rahim 6* (19)
Bangladesh need 125 runs to win from 21 overs at 5.95 runs per over.

Over 28: Just four singles from the over as these two Bangladesh players continue their patient approach. Well bowled by Johnston though, keeping it tight.
    Bangladesh 114/5 (RR: 4.07): Bashar 9* (22), Rahim 4* (16)
Bangladesh need 130 runs to win from 22 overs at 5.91 runs per over.

Over 27: Bashar gets a single, and Rahim works to midwicket for another. They thought about a second, but it's not on. Another excellent over from McCallan, just those two singles from it. Pressure mounting on Bangladesh despite that let-off in Johnston's over.
    Bangladesh 110/5 (RR: 4.07): Bashar 7* (18), Rahim 2* (14)
Bangladesh need 134 runs to win from 23 overs at 5.83 runs per over.

Over 26: Bashar should be gone. He skies an attempted pull shot and gives a simple chance to Langford-Smith in the deep, but he puts it down. Three singles from the over, but there really should have been a wicket as well. That would have all-but clinched it for the Irish you feel.
    Bangladesh 108/5 (RR: 4.15): Bashar 6* (14), Rahim 1* (12)
Bangladesh need 136 runs to win from 24 overs at 5.67 runs per over.

Johnston is back into the attack for Ireland.

Over 25: Bashar plays out five dot balls before getting a single from the final bal of the over. This is fantastic cricket from Ireland, really applying the pressure at this crucial stage of proceedings.
    Bangladesh 105/5 (RR: 4.20): Bashar 4* (12), Rahim 0* (8)
Bangladesh need 139 runs to win from 25 overs at 5.56 runs per over.

Over 24: Bashar takes on the short ball from Rankin, and the ball brushes something on its way through to O'Brien. Half-hearted appeals from most of the Ireland players, but Rankin is convinced it's out. Steve Bucknor isn't. Bashar shows his worrying tendency to back away when faced with short bowling, and fends the ball away to third-man for a single. Rahim's defensive technique is far more solid, getting right in behind the ball.
    Bangladesh 104/5 (RR: 4.33): Bashar 3* (6), Rahim 0* (8)
Bangladesh need 140 runs to win from 26 overs at 5.38 runs per over.

Over 23: McCallan continues, and Johnston has brought the field in here now. Bashar does get a single with a cut to point. Bashar gets involved in another mix-up and has to turn and getback to the non-striker's end as Rahim sends him back. Bangladesh in danger of imploding here, and Ireland sense it and are all over their opposition.
    Bangladesh 103/5 (RR: 4.48): Bashar 2* (4), Rahim 0* (4)
Bangladesh need 141 runs to win from 27 overs at 5.22 runs per over.

Over 22: Keeper-batsman Rahim is the new batsman for Bangladesh, who are in deep, deep trouble.
    Bangladesh 102/5 (RR: 4.64): Bashar 1* (2), Rahim 0* (0)
Bangladesh need 142 runs to win from 28 overs at 5.07 runs per over.

    WICKET!
    Mohammad Ashraful c Langford-Smith b Rankin 35 (36)
Ashraful plays a lazy waft at the first ball of the over that is harshly called wide. The second ball is definitely a wide, and Rankin seems to struggle when he comes back for a second spell. Ireland almost get the breakthrough they're looking for as Ashraful splices a hook shot and is fortunate to see it land between two fielders out for just that shot. Bashar cuts down to third-man for a single to get off the mark. Ashraful then calls Bashar through for a single but is sent back by his captain and is almost run out. Ashraful rightly furious with his skipper. There was a long single, and it was Ashraful's call. Bashar's mind just no on the job here, and that missed single proves crucial as Ashraful holes out to long-leg from the final ball of the over. That's why Rankin was brought back, and Langford-Smith gets to his trademark dance as well. Ireland huge favourites now.

Rankin is back into the attack. Johnston here looking for one more wicket that will put them right on top.

Over 21: Ashraful is beaten by the first two deliveries from McCallan, but drives the third sweetly through the covers for four. The next beats the bat again, but the fifth is eased out to deep point for a single. Bashar defends his first delivery to end the over.
    Bangladesh 98/4 (RR: 4.67): Ashraful 34* (31), Bashar 0* (1)
Bangladesh need 146 runs to win from 29 overs at 5.03 runs per over.

With the powerplays out of the way, Kyle McCallan is into the attack.

Over 20: Bashar is the new batsman, shunting himself down the order to number six today. He's got a big job on here alongside Ashraful.
    Bangladesh 93/4 (RR: 4.65): Ashraful 29* (26), Bashar 0* (0)
Bangladesh need 151 runs to win from 30 overs at 5.03 runs per over.

    WICKET!
    Tamim Iqbal b Johnston 29 (59)

Iqbal's brainless batting finally catches up with him. Such a shame. He hit a boundary back over Johnston's head the ball before before recklessly backing away and coming down the track next ball, yorking himself and getting bowled. Huge wicket for Ireland, who are right back on top. Johnston's chicken dance is at its most fevered there.

Over 19: Ashraful guides to third-man for a single, and Iqbal gets two more with a powerful drive down the ground. Iqbal tries to get the last ball of the over down to third-man but makes no contact.
    Bangladesh 88/3 (RR: 4.63): Iqbal 25* (55), Ashraful 28* (24)
Bangladesh need 156 runs to win from 31 overs at 5.03 runs per over.

Over 18: Iqbal gets in on the act now with a classical straight drive past mid-on for four and follows it up with a quick single to mid-on who is right back on the edge of the circle. Ashraful carves the ball to third-man and gets three as Bray does brilliantly to prevent the boundary. Another good over for Bangladesh, although Iqbal tries to spoil it by getting out to the final ball, backing away and making no contact as the ball just misses the stumps.
    Bangladesh 85/3 (RR: 4.72): Iqbal 23* (51), Ashraful 27* (22)
Bangladesh need 159 runs to win from 32 overs at 4.97 runs per over.

Over 17: Botha drops short to Ashraful, and that's usually a mistake. The little right-hander absolutely smashes it over midwicket for six, and follows that up with a the shot of the day so far, a sumptuous cover drive for four as Botha overcompensates. Botha drags the over back somewhat with four dot balls to finish, but Ashraful is undoubtedly the man Ireland need to remove.
    Bangladesh 77/3 (RR: 4.53): Iqbal 18* (48), Ashraful 24* (19)
Bangladesh need 167 runs to win from 33 overs at 5.06 runs per over.

Over 16: Iqbal fends the first ball to gully and is called through for a good single by Ashraful. The right-hander throws his hands at one outside the off stump from Johnston and gets enough bat on it to reach the boundary behind point. He's the danger man, no question, and he gets a single behind point from the next delivery. Iqbal is beaten by a slower ball to end the over.
    Bangladesh 67/3 (RR: 4.19): Iqbal 18* (48), Ashraful 14* (13)
Bangladesh need 177 runs to win from 34 overs at 5.21 runs per over.

The third and final powerplay is taken.

Drinks. Ireland will be mighty pleased with those 15 overs. They've picked up three big wickets and while they're still a long way from winning this game they are well on top at this point, with full ODI status now very much within their grasp. What an achievement that would be.

Over 15: Ashraful opens the face to steer the ball beautifully to the third-man boundary, and then two balls later deliberately guides one over the slip fielder to the exact same boundary. Wonderful batting from Ashraful, who is more than capable of a matchwinning innings in this situation.
    Bangladesh 61/3 (RR: 4.07): Iqbal 17* (46), Ashraful 9* (9)
Bangladesh need 183 runs to win from 35 overs at 5.23 runs per over.

Over 14: Ashraful gets off the mark with a quick single to mid-off. Iqbal gets four with a cracking square drive. Again no footwork, but this one came racing out of the middle of the bat. The final ball of the over is back of a length and beats Iqbal outside the off stump as his lack of footwork is exposed.
    Bangladesh 53/3 (RR: 3.79): Iqbal 17* (46), Ashraful 1* (3)
Bangladesh need 191 runs to win from 36 overs at 5.31 runs per over.

Johnston brings himself into the attack.

Over 13: Iqbal defends the rest of the over, and with a run and a wicket off that over Ireland are in control here.
    Bangladesh 48/3 (RR: 3.69): Iqbal 13* (43), Ashraful 0* (0)
Bangladesh need 196 runs to win from 37 overs at 5.30 runs per over.

Ashraful is the new batsman. Crucial partnership this now for the Tigers.

    WICKET!
Saqibul Hasan run out (Botha) 3 (8)

Desperate luck for Saqibul, run out backing up as Iqbal hammers a drive back at the bowler Botha who deflects it into the stumps. Saqibul just failed to get his bat down in time. I hereby promise to make no 'luck of the Irish' jokes.

Over 12: More evidence of uneven bounce as Saqibul plays over the top of one outside the off stump. Saqibul gets right back to defend the next one and gets through for a single. Iqbal can get nothing from the rest of the over, and Ireland have dragged things back well since that 18-run over from Rankin.
    Bangladesh 47/2 (RR: 3.92): Iqbal 13* (38), Saqibul 2* (7)
Bangladesh need 197 runs to win from 38 overs at 5.18 runs per over.

Over 11: Sqibul gets off the mark with a thick outside edge to third-man.Iqbal is beaten by the final ball of a cracking first over from Botha.
    Bangladesh 46/2 (RR: 4.18): Iqbal 13* (36), Saqibul 1* (3)
Bangladesh need 198 runs to win from 39 overs at 5.08 runs per over.

Saqibul is the new batsman. He was the one man to cope with the conditions here against England, so he has a big part to play.

    WICKET!
    Aftab Ahmed c N O'Brien b Botha 12 (9)

Huge wicket for Ireland. It's just a loosener from Botha outside the off stump, but Aftab throws his hands at it, gets a thin edge and O'Brien completes a fine catch stood up to the stumps. Brilliant take from a full-of-a-length delivery.

Johnston takes the second powerplay and throws the ball to Botha. Niall O'Brien is up to the stumps.

Over 10: Iqbal shows why he doesn't need to rely on riduculous shots, hammering a short ball through the covers off the back foot for a high-class boundary. And then he comes down the track again and has a big slog and misses. So frustrating. So much talent, but a lot to learn about batting.
    Bangladesh 45/1 (RR: 4.50): Iqbal 13* (33), Aftab 12* (8)
Bangladesh need 199 runs to win from 40 overs at 4.98 runs per over.

Over 9: Iqbal drives down the ground for three runs, and Aftab then gets an extraordinary four. He's aiming through midwicket, but gets a leading edge through the covers for four. To confirm just how good Aftab's bat is, he picks the next one up over midwicket and gets it all the way for six. Rankin is rattled, and the next two balls are both wides. Clever, thinking cricket from Aftab, dropping the next ball into the offside and taking the single. With the left-hander back on strike Rankin stuffs one down the legside for another wide. Iqbal shows what a brainless cricketer he is by coming down the track and trying to slog the final ball of an over that has already yielded 17 runs. He gets an inside edge past his stumps for a single, but what was he thinking. Great over for Bangladesh though.
    Bangladesh 41/1 (RR: 4.56): Iqbal 9* (28), Aftab 12* (8)
Bangladesh need 203 runs to win from 41 overs at 4.95 runs per over.

Over 8: Aftab works off his pads to fine-leg for a single, and Iqbal then tries to come down the track to Langford-Smith but has to adjust his shot and defend. Iqbal finally makes good contact with one of his stand-and-deliver smears outside the off stump and gets two for that, and ends the over with a single to fine-leg.
    Bangladesh 23/1 (RR: 2.88): Iqbal 5* (25), Aftab 2* (5)
Bangladesh need 221 runs to win from 42 overs at 5.26 runs per over.

Over 7: Aftab plays his first ball into the legside. It drops safely but convinces Johnston to bring in a short-leg. Good attacking captaincy, but Aftab manages to work the next ball to leg for a single. Iqbal hammers the final ball of the over into the covers where Porterfield makes a fine diving stop. Excellent fast bowling from Rankin, and backed up in the field. Ireland on top here.
    Bangladesh 19/1 (RR: 2.71): Iqbal 2* (22), Aftab 1* (2)
Bangladesh need 225 runs to win from 43 overs at 5.23 runs per over.

Aftab comes in at number three for Bangladesh.

    WICKET!
    Shahriar Nafees c N O'Brien b Rankin 7 (18)

The short ball does the trick as Nafees gloves an attempted pull, lobbing the ball up in the air and giving Niall O'Brien a simple catch behind the stumps. Deserved reward for Ireland, who have started well here.

Over 6: Iqbal ducks a bouncer before throwing the bat at another ball outside the off stump. Again, no footwork and no contact from the bat. Iqbalplays and misses again, and that must take him into double figures for those now. The final ball is again too good for the youngster, flying past the outside edge and through to Niall O'Brien. Fine maiden over from Langford-Smith.
    Bangladesh 18/0 (RR: 3.00): Iqbal 2* (21), Nafees 7* (15)
Bangladesh need 226 runs to win from 44 overs at 5.14 runs per over.

Over 5: Rankin starts his over with a wide down the legside before Nafees follows Iqbal's example in playing an airy, leaden-footed waft outside the off stump. Fortunately for the batsman, he makes no contact. The next ball climbs on Nafees and strikes him on the bottom hand. The next ball keeps a touch low, and Nafees almost chops it into his stumps. Another two wides follow down the legside, and Nafees drives the next through the covers for two. Wild over from Rankin, mixing some high-class deliveries with some horribly wayward stuff.
    Bangladesh 18/0 (RR: 3.60): Iqbal 2* (15), Nafees 7* (15)
Bangladesh need 226 runs to win from 45 overs at 5.02 runs per over.

Over 4: Iqbal is beaten twice in succession, first by one that keeps low and then one that bounces. A thick edge from another short ball gets Iqbal a lucky single, and Nafees drives to cover for another single. Iqbal is beaten again outside the off stump, and a third slip comes in for the final ball of Langford-Smith's over that Iqbal leaves. Good start from Ireland, who will feel they deserve at least one wicket already.
    Bangladesh 13/0 (RR: 3.25): Iqbal 2* (15), Nafees 5* (9)
Bangladesh need 231 runs to win from 46 overs at 5.02 runs per over.

Over 3: A legside delivery from Rankin is deflected to the fine-leg boundary by Nafees, who is kept in jumpy defence for the rest of the over. Not comfortable against Rankin's extra bounce here.
    Bangladesh 11/0 (RR: 3.67): Iqbal 1* (10), Nafees 4* (8)
Bangladesh need 233 runs to win from 47 overs at 4.96 runs per over.

Over 2: Langford-Smith beats Iqbal with a good one that just shapes away from the young left-hander, but then bowls a big wide outside the off stump that Iqbal has a dart at. Another loose drive from Iqbal outside the off stump makes no contact. He certainly gives the bowlers a chance. Good first over from Langford-Smith, just the wide from it.
    Bangladesh 7/0 (RR: 3.50): Iqbal 1* (10), Nafees 0* (2)
Bangladesh need 237 runs to win from 48 overs at 4.94 runs per over.

Langford-Smith to share the new ball.

Over 1: A bouncer from Rankin sails over Iqbal's head and Niall O'Brien's for five wides. Right decision, but again the short ball is not convincingly played by the Bangladesh opener. Iqbal does get off the mark with a thick outside edge through gully, and Nafees awkwardly fends a ball off his hip to end the over.
    Bangladesh 6/0 (RR: 6.00): Iqbal 1* (4), Nafees 0* (2)
Bangladesh need 238 runs to win from 49 overs at 4.86 runs per over.

Boyd Rankin to bowl the first over of the innings.

The Ireland players are out on the field, followed by Bangladesh openers Tamim Iqbal and Shahriar Nafees. Anyone's game here, and it should be a gripping run chase.

Ireland: 243 for seven (50 overs)
Bangladesh need 244 to win at 4.88 runs per over

Top effort from Ireland. They used the "English" strategy of setting a platform at the top of the order for the lower-order hitters to build on late doors. The difference was that it worked. From what we've seen of this pitch, this will be a very testing total for Bangladesh to chase. Remember - the reward for an Ireland win hereis permanent ODI status, so plenty at stake.

Over 50: Botha deflects his first ball to third-man for a single, and Langford-Smith is able to find the boundary at long-leg from the penultimate delivery. The batsmen scramble a bye from the final ball of the over after Langford-Smith makes no contact.
    Ireland 243/7 (RR: 4.86): Langford-Smith 6* (4), Botha 1* (1)

Andre Botha is the new batsman.

    WICKET!
    DT Johnston c Nafees b Mortaza 30 (23)

Langford-Smith swings to leg for a single, and Johnston gets the next ball down the ground for a hard-run two. The next ball is a slower ball, and Johnston can only smash it straight to Shahriar Nafees at cover. Great cameo from the skipper though, getting Ireland up to a very competitive total.

Mortaza to bowl the final over of the innings.

Over 49: Langford-Smith swings the ball away for a single to end the over. He'll have strike at the start of the final over of the innings.
    Ireland 234/6 (RR: 4.78): Johnston 28* (21), Langford-Smith 1* (1)

Dave Langford-Smith is the new batsman.

    AR White run out (Farhad/Rahim) 4 (4)

Johnston hoiks Razzaq over midwicket but gets only a single. White is happy to tip and run another to get Johnston back on strike, and the Ireland captain responds by launching a six over midwicket. Johnston tries to repeat the shot but makes poor contact and has to settle for a single. White turns the next ball to leg and tries to come back for a second run but is just short of his ground when Rahim whips the bails off. Fourth run out of the innings.

Over 48: Three singles from the next three balls before Johnston hammers a drive through the covers and away to the boundary. Great shot from the Ireland captain, who adds a single to keep the strike from the final ball of the over. Nine runs from the over despite the wicket.
    Ireland 223/5 (RR: 4.65): Johnston 20* (18), White 2* (2)

Andrew White is the new batsman, and we've seen that he can hit a cricket ball effectively as well.

    WICKET!
    KJ O'Brien run out (Farhad/Rahim) 48 (44)

O'Brien clubs the ball down the ground, and is finally run out as he tries to take a second run. Good call from the keeper to get the throw to his end from long-off. Cracking knock from O'Brien though, adding the impetus that was needed.

    Mortaza back into the attack.

Over 47: O'Brien works to leg for a single, and Johnston swats the fourth ball into the legside and scampers back for two. The next ball results in a scampered leg-bye, and again a direct hit would have found O'Brien short. O'Brien swings the final ball of the over into the legside for a single.
    Ireland 214/4 (RR: 4.55): K O'Brien 47* (43), Johnston 14* (15)

Razzak is back into the attack.

Over 46: Bad start for Hossain, offering Johnston enough width to carve the ball over the slip region for four runs. Johnston turns the next ball round the corner for a single, and O'Brien brings up the 200 with a sliced drive over the offside for two runs. O'Brien gets two more with a chip over midwicket that Tamim Iqbal fields smartly on the rope. This is becoming a very significant over for Ireland, and O'Brien makes it even better by hammering the fifth ball miles over long-on for his second enormous six. A quick single ends a great over for Ireland. Sixteen runs from it.
    Ireland 209/4 (RR: 4.54): K O'Brien 45* (40), Johnston 12* (12)

Hossain is back into the attack for Bangladesh. Could be chances here for Ireland.

Over 45: Johnston bunts down the ground for a single before two leg-byes from a complete mix-up. The ball hit O'Brien on the pad and Johnston called him through. A directhit would have seen O'Brien well short, but the throw misses and they get an overthrow as well. Two singles follow and O'Brien places the final ball nicely into the legside to collect an easy two. Rafique ends his 10-over spell with none for 42.
    Ireland 193/4 (RR: 4.29): K O'Brien 34* (36), Johnston 7* (10)

Over 44: Mortaza starts with two dot balls, but Johnston guides the next one to third-man for a hard-run two. Johnston digs out a no-ball yorker and gets a sharp single to boot. O'Brien is beaten by a slower ball to end the over. Another good one for Bangladesh, just four from it.
    Ireland 186/4 (RR: 4.23): K O'Brien 31* (32), Johnston 5* (8)

Over 43: Rafique bowls a wide down the legside, but it comes in the middle of four dot balls. O'Brien does get a single from the fifth ball of the over, qand Johnston gets another from the final ball. Good over from Rafique at this stage of the innings.
    Ireland 182/4 (RR: 4.23): K O'Brien 31* (31), Johnston 2* (2)

Over 42: O'Brien guides the ball to third-man for a single, and Johnston repeats the shot to get off the mark. O'Brien keeps the strike with another single from the final ball of the over.
    Ireland 179/4 (RR: 4.26): K O'Brien 30* (26), Johnston 1* (1)

Johnston is the new batsman, but he won't be on strike as the batsmen crossed while that ball was in the air. That wicket might not be the worst thing for Ireland, as it means their two most destructive hitters are at the crease with eight overs to go and wickets still in hand.

    WICKET!
    WTS Porterfield c Rafique b Mortaza 85 (136)

Porterfield swings and misses at two balls, at least one of which should have been called wide, before trying to paddle the ball over the man at short fine-leg but instead picking him out with a skier. Fine innings from Porterfield, and the stage is set now for the big-hitters in these final overs.

Bashar turns to his main man Mortaza with wickets needed to stem the flow of runs here.

Over 41: O'Brien hits down the ground for a single before Porterfield places the ball cleverly into the legside for a hard-run two. Three more singles follow and O'Brien gets four more with a mistimed hoik over deep midwicket, where the fielder had ventured in too far from the rope. Another excellent over for Ireland, who are on the charge now, led by O'Brien.
    Ireland 176/3 (RR: 4.29): Porterfield 85* (133), K O'Brien 28* (24)

Rafique into the attack with Bangladesh needing to find an answer to O'Brien's hitting.

Over 40: Porterfield does the right thing - pushing a single to give O'Brien the strike. O'Brien drives wide of long-off for two and gets a single with a hammer down the ground to long-off. Porterfield nurdles another single from ball five, and Saqibul's final delivery is hit to deep point for another single by O'Brien.
    Ireland 166/3 (RR: 4.15): Porterfield 81* (130), K O'Brien 22* (21)

Over 39: Porterfield comes down the track but misses and the ball runs back to the bowler off the pad. Razzak decides to throw at the stumps for some reason, and the batsmen get a couple of bonus leg-byes. Porterfield hits down the ground for a single, and O'Brien then goes down the ground with more authority, collecting four for a clubbed drive. Both men collect singles and O'Brien then launches an enormous shot, high over midwicket for a huge six. He's going to be a dangerous player in these late overs, and he showed why with a couple of glorious shots in that over.
    Ireland 160/3 (RR: 4.10): Porterfield 79* (128), K O'Brien 18* (17)

Over 38: Ireland still content to accumulate, collecting five risk-free singles from Saqibul's over. The last 12overs are going to be crucial here. If Ireland can get up to around 220 there in with a great chance.
    Ireland 145/3 (RR: 3.82): Porterfield 77* (125), K O'Brien 7* (14)

Over 37: Three singles from Razzak's over. Ireland have scored just five boundaries today, and at some point soon they are going to have to make the decision to step on the gas with wickets in hand.
    Ireland 140/3 (RR: 3.78): Porterfield 74* (121), K O'Brien 5* (12)

Razzak is back into the attack as Bashar continues to rotate his slow-bowling options.

Over 36: Four singles from the over, but a better throw from the last of those singles might have had O'Brien struggling.
    Ireland 137/3 (RR: 3.81): Porterfield 72* (117), K O'Brien 4* (10)

Over 35: Porterfield hits through cover for a single, and O'Brien plays a mirror-image to get off the mark. Porterfield eases Aftab to long-on for another single and, after a wide, O'Brien adds another single.
    Ireland 133/3 (RR: 3.80): Porterfield 70* (113), K O'Brien 2* (8)

Over 34: O'Brien blocks the last four balls of the over, and Bangladesh have the chance to put the squeeze on here.
    Ireland 128/3 (RR: 3.76): Porterfield 68* (111), K O'Brien 0* (4)

Kevin O'Brien replaces his brother at the crease as the players take drinks. The first right-hander these Bangladesh spinners have had to bowl at.

    WICKET!
    NJ O'Brien c Tamim Iqbal b Saqibul Hasan 10 (14)

Porterfield cuts hard to deep point for another single before O'Brien tries to reverse-sweep but succeeds only in picking out the man at short fine-leg. Big wicket for Bangladesh, and O'Brien will be very disappointed at that dismissal.

Over 33: Aftab's first ball is on leg stump and clipped away for an easy single by Porterfield. O'Brien blocks into the covers for one more, and Porterfield works through midwicket for another.
    Ireland 127/2 (RR: 3.85): Porterfield 67* (110), N O'Brien 10* (13)

Interesting bowling change from Habibul Bashar, bringing on the occasional medium-pace of Aftab Ahmed.

Over 32: Three singles from the first three balls, and Porterfield then gets two from a hard sweep. A more-controlled sweep gets him a single to end another good over for the Irish.
    Ireland 124/2 (RR: 3.88): Porterfield 65* (108), N O'Brien 9* (9)

Over 31: O'Brien gets an outside edge to third-man for two runs as Rafique pushes one through but with no slip in place. O'Brien works into the legside for another run, and Ireland are being allowed to accumulate too easily here. Another single to each batsman ends the over.
    Ireland 118/2 (RR: 3.81): Porterfield 61* (104), N O'Brien 7* (7)

Over 30: Porterfield gets two with a top-edged sweep over the short-fine-leg fielder. He then works to leg for another single, and O'Brien gets across his stumps to nurdle another single from Saqibul. A short ball from Saqibul is cut hard behind point for two by Porterfield, and it's another good over for Ireland, six runs coming from it.
    Ireland 113/2 (RR: 3.77): Porterfield 60* (101), N O'Brien 3* (4)

Over 29: Porterfield sweeps for a single, and O'Brien gets off the mark with a sharp run to midwicket. A wide down the legside from Rafique adds another run to the total before a nudge into the legside gets Porterfield another single. O'Brien shovels the ball to short fine-leg for one more, and Porterfield completes a productive over for Ireland by getting down the track to hit straight for another single.
    Ireland 107/2 (RR: 3.69): Porterfield 55* (96), N O'Brien 2* (3)

Over 28: O'Brien blocks the final ball of the over.
    Ireland 101/2 (RR: 3.61):Porterfield 52* (92), N O'Brien 0* (1)

Niall O'Brien is the new batsman.

    WICKET!
    EJG Morgan run out (Hossain/Rahim) 5 (9)

Porterfield paddles the ball to fine-leg for two runs. A leg-bye as Porterfield misses a sweep raises Ireland's 100. That's a milestone they never reached against Australia, but they lose another wicket to a needless run out as Morgan tries to come back for a second run to deep midwicket and is well beaten by Hossain's bullet throw from the fence. Ireland in danger of throwing this away here. That one was all Morgan's own work - no blame to Porterfield on that occasion.

Over 27: Porterfield pushes down the ground for a single to take him to 50. Fine innings, but Bray isn't clapping too heartily on the Ireland balcony! Morgan plays out the over, and it's tricky to start against spin on this surface.
    Ireland 97/1 (RR: 3.59): Porterfield 50* (88), Morgan 4* (8)

    Porterfield 50: 88 balls, 3 x 4s

Over 26: Morgan comes down the track and smashes the ball over midwicket, clearing the fielder and getting a one-bounce four. Brave shot second ball, but it just about comes off.
    Ireland 96/1 (RR: 3.69): Porterfield 49* (87), Morgan 4* (3)

Eoin Morgan is the new batsman, and for the first time in the tournament he comes in with a decent total already on the board.

    WICKET!
    JP Bray run out (Saqibul/Rahim) 31 (70)

Bangladesh finally make the breakthrough, and Porterfield must take the blame here. Desperate to reach his 50 he calls for a run from a push into the offside, but Saqibul fields in his followthrough and wings the ball to Mushfiqur Rahim who has the bails off with Bray well short of his ground.

Over 25: Three more singles from that Rafique over. Ireland aren't getting away from Bangladesh here, but we have seen how tough it can be to score in the second innings here, and Ireland are heading towards a decent score.
    Ireland 91/0 (RR: 3.64): Porterfield 49* (86), Bray 30* (67)

Over 24: Porterfield defends into the offside and is called through for a single by Bray. A direct hit would have had Porterfield, but again Bangladesh can't hit the stumps. Bray gets a hard-run two with a whip through square-leg and a single on the sweep from the final ball of the over. Ireland just accumulating nicely here.
    Ireland 88/0 (RR: 3.67): Porterfield 48* (84), Bray 28* (64)

Over 23: Porterfield shovels to leg for a single, and Bray adds another down the ground. Porterfield misses a sweep, but Bray calls him through for a leg-bye. Rafique's quicker ball almost gets through Bray's defences and he is then hit on the boot attempting to sweep, but he's got just outside the line and that's all that saved him. Good over from Rafique.
    Ireland 84/0 (RR: 3.65): Porterfield 47* (83), Bray 25* (59)

    Change of ends for Rafique.

Over 22: Bray works the first ball from Saqibul through midwicket for two runs, and he gets a single with another nurdle into the legside. This is now Ireland's best ever ODI opening partnership. Porterfield gets another single to midwicket, and Ireland's good start continues.
    Ireland 81/0 (RR: 3.68): Porterfield 46* (80), Bray 24* (56)

Saqibul Hasan is into the attack - the third left-arm spinner we've seen today.

Over 21: Two more singles from Razzak's over. There's a delay midway through the over as Billy Bowden has a word with Razzak. Something has upset the umpire, but I'm not sure what.
    Ireland 77/0 (RR: 3.67): Porterfield 45* (78), Bray 21* (52)

The powerplays are over, and Ireland will be the happier side here.

Over 20: Ireland are really hustlingbetween the wickets here, collecting three singles and a leg-bye from Rafique's over. One of the singles is a bit of an error in judgement from Bray, as a direct hit would have left him short of his ground.
    Ireland 75/0 (RR: 3.75): Porterfield 44* (76), Bray 20* (48)

Over 19: Just two wides from Razzak's over as Porterfield plays defensively after that earlier let-off.
    Ireland 71/0 (RR: 3.74): Porterfield 43* (73), Bray 18* (44)

Over 18: Bray works to leg for two runs and gets a quick single to backward point. Porterfield then chips a simple return catch to Rafique, who goes lazily for the ball with one hand and puts it down. Very poor effort from Rafique, and Porterfield gets a single from the final ball of the over.
    Ireland 69/0 (RR: 3.83): Porterfield 43* (67), Bray 18* (44)

The second member of the Bangladesh spin trio is into the attack as Mohammad Rafique replaces Hossain.

Over 17: Porterfield works Razzak behind square on the legside for two, and adds four more with a glorious drive down the ground, using his feet to get to the pitch of the ball.
    Ireland 65/0 (RR: 3.82): Porterfield 42* (65), Bray 15* (40)

Over 16: Bray survives a tight lbw shout - it might have hit him just outside the line - and then makes no contact with an attempted uppercut as Hossain gets another one to fly through to the keeper. He then gets his first boundary with a cracking drive over the infield and away to the cover fence. The final ball is another rapid bouncer from Hossain that has Bray jerking out of the way.
    Ireland 59/0 (RR: 3.69): Porterfield 36* (59), Bray 15* (40)

The final powerplay is taken, and Hossain will continue.

Drinks. Steady start for Ireland, with no wickets down. The run-rate isn't special, but a platform is being built for the middle-order to attack from.

Over 15: Razzak twirls away, and there are just two singles from the over. How Ireland play these left-arm spinners is going to be decisive today.
    Ireland 55/0 (RR: 3.67): Porterfield 36* (59), Bray 11* (35)

Over 14: Hossain beats Porterfield outside off stump from around the wicket, but Porterfield brings up the 50 partnership with a punch through cover for three runs. It's a no-ball as well, and considering Ireland's biggest opening partnership in this tournament today was seven, this is a fine effort. Hossain gets one to bounce sharply at Bray who gets a bit of luck as the ball goes down into the ground from the handle of the bat.
    Ireland 53/0 (RR: 3.77): Porterfield 35* (54), Bray 10* (34)

Over 13: Porterfield gets a single, and Bray then adds three with a classy-looking shot through the covers off the back foot. Porterfield work behind square on the legside for a single and Bray defends a quicker ball to end Razzak's first over.
    Ireland 49/0 (RR: 3.77): Porterfield 32* (50), Bray 10* (31)

Spin for the first time, and it's Abdur Razzak. This is the crucial test for Ireland as the three left-arm spinners come into play against the Irish left-handers at the top of the order.

Over 12: Bray defends to cover off the back foot and scampers through for a single, and Porterfield gets three from the final ball of the over with another neat clip off his toes. He really does look in excellent order here.
    Ireland 44/0 (RR: 3.67): Porterfield 30* (46), Bray 7* (29)

Over 11: Porterfield again works to leg for a single and after a leg-bye and a single for each batsman Porterfield ends rgw over with apowerful pull shot through square-leg for four. Top shot that, and Ireland going well.
    Ireland 40/0 (RR: 3.64): Porterfield 27* (42), Bray 6* (27)

The second powerplay is taken by Bangladesh.

Over 10: Porterfield takes on a short ball from Hossain but makes no contact as the ball flies through to the keeper at head height. Porterfield nurdles the next ball into the legside, and Bray blocks the last two.
    Ireland 32/0 (RR: 3.44): Porterfield 21* (39), Bray 5* (24)

Over 9: Mortaza starts with a no-ball, and Porterfield gets another single from an outside edge that drops well short of the ludicrously deep second slip. Bray blocks the last two balls of the over.
    Ireland 31/0 (RR: 3.44): Porterfield 20* (35), Bray 5* (22)

Over 8: More poor fielding, from Mohammad Ashraful this time, allows Porterfield to get two bonus runs from a clip to midwicket. Porterfield gets two more with a cflick to long-leg and then takes a well-judged quick single to midwicket. The youngster is looking good here.
    Ireland 29/0 (RR: 3.43): Porterfield 19* (30), Bray 5* (20)

Over 7: Another good over from Mortaza to Bray, just a no-ball coming from it.
    Ireland 24/0 (RR: 3.63): Porterfield 14* (24), Bray 5* (20)

Over 6: Hossain comes round the wicket and immediately pins Porterfield on the pads. Big lbw shout, but probably just missing leg. Much better over from Hossain though, completing a maiden.
    Ireland 23/0 (RR: 3.83): Porterfield 14* (24), Bray 5* (13)

Over 5: Porterfield again works to leg for a single, and Bray is then beaten outside off stump as his lack of footwork is in evidence again. He does manage to get a ball down to wide third-man for two, but another good over from Mortaza here.
    Ireland 23/0 (RR: 4.60): Porterfield 14* (18), Bray 5* (13)

Over 4: Hossain starts his second over with a legside wide, and Porterfield collects a single with a push into the covers. Well run. The next ball is a good one that climbs at Bray who fends to gully, and gets a bonus run after a pointless throw at the stumps from Habibul Bashar. Porterfield gets a streaky four with a thick outside edge just wide of second slip. It bounced well short of the fielder, who is set far too deep. A no-ball follows from Hossain, and it's lucky in a way as a catch is dropped at cover from that delivery. Porterfield ends the over with a beatiful clip through midwicket for three more, and Ireland have made a good start here.
    Ireland 20/0 (RR: 5.00): Porterfield 13* (14), Bray 3* (9)

Over 3: Porterfield flicks to long-leg for a single, and Bray plays out the rest of the over defensively. Good start from Mortaza here.
    Ireland 9/0 (RR: 3.00): Porterfield 5* (10), Bray 2* (8)

Over 2: Hossain struggles with his line, getting picked off for a single through the legside by Bray before a leg-bye. Bray gets another single, to third-man this time, before another legside delivery is clipped sweetly through the legside for three runs by Porterfield. He adds a quick single to make eight runs in total from a wayward over.
    Ireland 8/0 (RR: 4.00): Porterfield 4* (9), Bray 2* (3)

Shahadat Hossain to share the new ball on his first appearance.

Over 1: Mortaza starts with a maiden over to Porterfield, getting good pace and carry through to the keeper. Ireland's decision to bat first is certainly a strange one in these conditions. They must fear those three Bangladesh spinners later in the day.
    Ireland 0/0 (RR: 0.00): Porterfield 0* (6), Bray 0* (0)

Mashrafe Mortaza will open the bowling.

Ireland openers Jeremy Bray and William Porterfield follow the Bangladesh players onto the field.

These two teams may not be staying in the Caribbean for the semi-finals, but this game is of vital importance to both. For Ireland, permanent one-day status will be their reward if they can add Bangladesh to Pakistan as their second Test-class victims of the competition.
