whatmore to stand down - report

Bangladesh cricket coach Dav Whatmore will step down in May, according to reports.

Whatmore will quit after the series with India. The 53-year-old has been touted as one of the leading candidates to succeed Greg Chappell who stood down after India's World Cup elimination.

Whatmore led Bangladesh to the World Cup Super Eight stage but is most famous as the man who led Sri Lanka to victory in the 1996 World Cup with tactics that revolutionised the one-day game.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) sources in the Caribbean said that Whatmore would quit his post in May, according to Indian TV reports.

Whatmore, who was also linked with the England coaching job, was born in Sri Lanka but is an Australian national.
