chappell quits india job
Chappell - contract expired.
Greg Chappell has stepped down as India coach.
The 58-year-old Australian reportedly sent an email to Ratnakar Shetty, chief administrative officer for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), in which he cited personal and family reasons for the decision.
He had been under increasing pressure after a disappointing World Cup campaign in the Caribbean which saw India make a shock exit at the group stages after losing to both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
BCCI president Sharad Pawar confirmed Chappell's decision.
He said: " Mr Chappell's contract is over. The contract was up to the World Cup.
"I got a telephone call this afternoon from him saying because of his family and personal problems he was not wanting to continue the contract.
"He also thanks the BCCI for giving him the opportunity to coach the Indian team. Beyond that - nothing.
"I enquired to my office in Mumbai. They have received a letter from Chappell exactly on the same lines. I then requested Mr Niranjan Shah to release that letter to the media so that there would be no confusion.''
