Canada captain John Davison felt his side could take a number positives from their game performance in defeat to England on Sunday.

The North Americans caused an England team overshadowed by a disciplinary matter some concern before the Test side eventually ran out 51-run winners in their World Cup group C match in St Lucia.

England needed a late flurry to reach 279 for six and then had trouble bowling out Canada, who finished with a team World Cup-best 228 for seven after a half-century from Ashif Mulla.

Davison, the scorer of the World Cup's fastest century four years ago, was pleased with that achievement and gave him heart for their final group game against New Zealand.

Australia-born Davison said: "At the end there when we realised we weren't going to get the total that was a focus for us, to get as many as we could and, to get our highest score at a World Cup, that's a bonus.

"With the bat we had a plan to score against the new ball and unfortunately we lost three wickets, but we put them under a little bit of pressure."

The defeat meant Canada are now eliminated from the competition but they will return to action against the Kiwis on Thursday.
