England and Hampshire all-rounder Dimitri Mascarenhas has joined Tasmania for Australia's Twenty20 Big Bash competition.
The 32-year-old, who has made 14 Twenty20 international appearances for England, replaces the unavailable Sri Lanka bowler Lasith Malinga - who is required for his country's one-day series with Bangladesh - as the Tasmanian Tigers' international player for the tournament.
Cricket Tasmania operations general manager David Boon said: "When Malinga was first signed we knew this was a possibility and although it is disappointing, we have a suitable back-up player in Dimitri Mascarenhas, who will arrive in Hobart during December."
Mascarenhas, who was born in Middlesex and brought up in Australia, has also played limited overs cricket for Otago and in the Indian Premier League for Rajasthan Royals.
He is set to make his Tasmania debut on December 30 against New South Wales.
