The wicketkeeper was run out in controversial circumstances on day one at Headingley after colliding with Yorkshire bowler Steve Patterson, allowing Jack Leaning to throw down his stumps from mid-on.
He responded with 75 in the second innings as Nottinghamshire secured a draw.
"The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) today confirmed Chris Read has received a penalty under the ECB's discipline code," read a statement.
"Read was reported by umpires Martin Saggers and Alex Wharf during Nottinghamshire's LV= County Championship match against Yorkshire on 8th - 11th June 2014 for a Level 1 breach of the code (showing dissent at an umpire's decision by word or action).
"The penalty for this offence is a reprimand. This penalty will remain on his record for a period of two years and the accumulation of nine or more penalty points in any two year period will result in an automatic suspension."
