Pravin Tambe bagged a hat-trick as Rajasthan Royals beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 10 runs on Monday to draw level on points at the top of the Indian Premier League.

Shane Watson also took three wickets in an over as the Royals claimed six wickets in eight balls to secure the win.

The game also saw a side make a century opening stand - Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa making 121 together - and still lose the run chase for the first time in IPL history.

Batting first, the Royals notched 170-6 in their 20 overs, with Karun Nair top-scoring with 44 and Sanju Samson wading in with 37.

Watson hit 31 off 20 balls - including two sixes and two fours - while Ajikya Rahane notched 30 before being run out.

In reply, Kolkata looked to be coasting to an easy victory as Gambhir and Uthappa hit half centuries.

But Watson captured the wicket of Gambhir - caught behind by Samson - in the 15th over, which sparked the collapse.

Kevin Pietersen was out first ball as Delhi Daredevils lost by eight wickets to leaders Chennai Super Kings.

Former England batsman Pietersen was bowled by Mohit Sharma as Delhi posted 178-5 from their 20 overs, with Dinesh Karthik top scoring with 51.

In reply, Chennai chased the total down with two balls to spare, with Dwayne Smith hitting 79 as the leaders posted 181-2 to notch their sixth straight IPL win.
