Robson lifted his overnight total of 144 to 163 on day three of the LV= County Championship Division One match against Nottinghamshire at Lord's.

The Australian-born 24-year-old is in contention to face Sri Lanka and India this summer and knows the best way to win a first cap is to impress for Middlesex.

"I've just got to trying to get as many scores as I can. That's how I've always approached it. Big scores count and I'll keep on doing my best," Robson said.

"It would have been nice to go on a little bit more, but that happens.

"It's not the end of the world, I'm happy with how I played and pleased to contribute in an important period of the match."

A final-session fightback from Riki Wessels and Chris Read, who finished not out on 20 and 43 respectively, helped Notts to 184 for five, a lead of 71 heading into the fourth day.

Middlesex, though, are in a commanding position, despite the final half hour of the day at Lord's, and Robson is targeting a first win of the season.

"We're in a reasonable position, but there's still a lot of hard work to do. Hopefully we can knock them over and win the game," he said.

"They got a few boundaries towards the end and that can happen and you can't expect to have it all your own way against a good team."
