The 24-year-old former England Under-19 player had been kept in hospital following the accident on Friday evening which led to the postponement of Derbyshire's County Championship opener at Leicestershire.

Derbyshire announced on Sunday: "Following the tragic events of Friday evening, the club can confirm that Tom Poynton has been discharged from hospital and is now at home with his family.

"He is being supported by the club doctor and club physiotherapist who are treating the injuries sustained to his lower limbs in the accident."

Burton-born Poynton has been with Derbyshire since the age of 11 and made his first-team debut in 2007.

He signed a three-year contract in October 2012 and featured in 12 first-class fixtures last season, compiling 443 runs and claiming 30 dismissals.

Derbyshire chief executive Simon Storey said on the team's website: "We are relieved that Tom is now at home with his family and friends.

"The club will continue to do everything we can to support him in his rehabilitation, but the priority remains for now on supporting Tom and his family as they come to terms with the loss of Keith.

"The squad will return to The 3aaa County Ground tomorrow with the full support of the family. There is a shared sense of loss across the entire club which we will face together.

"On behalf of the entire club, I would like to put on record our sincere gratitude to all the messages of support we have received at this difficult time."
