The 33-year-old all-rounder was due to reach the end of his deal following a testimonial campaign in 2014 but has committed for a further 12 months, Sussex announced.
Yardy, capped 42 times by England, said on Sussex's website: "I'm really happy to have extended my contract with Sussex. It's really important that we keep progressing and forward challenging on all fronts. My aim is to put in match winning performances to contribute towards that."
Yardy helped England win the ICC World Twenty20 in 2010 but flew home early from the World Cup in 2011 due to depression.
