Australia edged a tight first day at the Adelaide Oval according to Sky Bet, who make them 5/4 for the second Test.

The hosts made a good start despite losing David Warner for 29, with Chris Rogers and Shane Watson putting on over a hundred before the pair fell in successive overs.

Monty Panesar then took the wicket of Steve Smith on his return to the England Test side and at that point, as the players took tea, England had shortened to 5/2 having touched 7/1 prior to the fall of the second wicket.

Australia responded well, though, losing just George Bailey before closing the day on 273 for five, which saw them cut once more while England were eased to 100/30. The draw remains very much a factor at 13/8.

Sky Bet set Australia's first innings total line at 430.5 and go 5/6 your choice of over or under, while those who believe England will struggle from here can back Australia at 4/9 in the draw no bet market.

When England do begin their response, Alastair Cook is the man most likely to lead the way according to the layers who make him 11/4 to top score. Kevin Pietersen, who is the fancy of our Dave Tickner, can be backed at 3/1.
