The Bears have opted against bringing in players on lucrative short-term contracts to participate in the shortened version of the game.

Dougie Brown, Warwickshire's new director of cricket, said: "I am 100 per cent behind that policy.

"It's not just a question of cost. We feel there is another way to achieve success. We already have the players here to be competitive.

"The guys here have performed well in 40-over cricket in recent years and I am sure they can do the same in Twenty20."

New Zealand spinner Jeetan Patel is the Bears' overseas player this year and is available for the entire campaign.
