New Zealand have called for a replacement for the second time in 24 hours after fast bowler Adam Milne was ruled out of the upcoming one-day international series in South Africa.

Neil Wagner: Called up by New Zealand

Milne, 20, suffered a recurrence of a lower leg injury with South Africa-born left-armer Neil Wagner called in as cover.

The news comes a day after the Black Caps revealed Grant Elliot would fly to South Africa after fellow all-rounder Corey Anderson fractured his thumb in training.

New Zealand physiotherapist Paul Close confirmed the news about Milne in a statement, saying: "Adam sustained a recurrence of his lower leg injury that's been problematic for him over the last few months.

"He requires further assessment to determine the severity of the injury but because he is unable bowl without pain the decision has been made to replace him for the ODI series."

Black Caps head coach Mike Hesson said: "While it is obviously disappointing for Adam this gives Neil a wonderful opportunity to join the squad for the ODI series.

"He's the ideal replacement for Adam and we are confident he will perform well in the one-dayers should he get the opportunity on this tour."

Anderson is due to be in a cast for the next two weeks after he sustained the injury to his left thumb after he was struck by a ball while bowling in the nets.

The three-match one-day international series against South Africa begins in Paarl on January 19.
