Afridi in line for ODI recall

Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi could still be called up for the ODI series against India in January if he continues to score runs domestically, according to captain Misbah-ul-Haq.

Shahid Afridi: Pushing for Pakistan recall

Afridi was left out of the ODI squad because of poor form, which surprised a number of pundits, but was included for the T20 matches.

Wasim Akram was one of those former players who questioned the wisdom of this omission, saying India were 'afraid' of Afridi.

But the all-rounder has come good with the bat in recent days, scoring two half centuries in warm-up matches and doing well at the training camp, so Misbah will be keeping an eye on him in case a recall is on the cards.

Misbah said in Lahore: "If his form remains like this and we needed him, we will definitely consider him. The form of senior players, who are experienced enough, is very important."

The captain went on to comment on former batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq's contribution as batting coach for the series, saying the players were learning valuable techniques and tips about how to play on Indian tracks.

The skipper said: "He is teaching us what types of hurdles we are going to face and how to get over them. No doubt in India versus Pakistan cricket you have to play aggressive cricket and we will try to apply it over there."

Misbah also warned against depending too much on spinner Saeed Ajmal, saying the other bowlers would need to back the number one limited overs bowler if they wanted to succeed as a team.

He cautioned: "India has depth in their batting lineup and you can't catch them with one bowler.

"As always, Saeed Ajmal is our trump card, but as a team if we bowl well then we do have a chance and I think it's not a right thing to depend only on Saeed Ajmal."
