Hodd initially moved to Headingley on loan from Sussex last month but has impressed sufficiently, deputising for Jonny Bairstow away on England duty, to be awarded a contract until the end of the 2014 season.
The 28-year-old, who made his first-class debut in 2003, said: "It's great that the club have backed me and signed me.
"The way that Jason Gillespie and Martyn Moxon have been talking with me has been really positive ... I feel part of the furniture already."
Yorkshire coach Gillespie added: "Andrew is one of the best wicketkeepers in the country, and you want the best players in your team.
"We've got no qualms about signing him, because he's a great lad and a very good cricketer. When lads like that come along, you snap them up."
