Du Plessis called up as cover

South Africa have called Faf du Plessis into their squad as cover for the injured Albie Morkel.

All-rounder Morkel, who was brought in to replace Marchant de Lange, is out for 10 days with ankle trouble.

And South Africa A captain du Plessis will now be available should the tourists suffer any further problems in the build-up to Thursday's second Test against England.

Morkel was highly unlikely to play at Headingley despite scoring a half-century in last week's warm-up at Worcestershire.

Meanwhile, Proteas captain Graeme Smith is back in the UK having returned from Cape Town via Amsterdam on Monday.

Smith flew home to attend the birth of his first child.
