Gloucestershire have agreed a short-term deal with Australia batsman Ed Cowan, subject to visa approval.

Ed Cowan: Set to join Gloucestershire

The county want the left-hander to fill the gap between the departure of Kane Williamson and the arrival, later this month, of fellow New Zealander Rob Nichol.

Cowan is expected to play in the last three Friends Life t20 fixtures, the LV= County Championship Division Two match against Essex and two Clydesdale Bank 40 clashes.

Cowan would then link up with Australia A ahead of their tour of England.

The 30-year-old has played seven Tests for the Baggy Greens but was not awarded a central contract when the latest batch were released last month.
