Steelbacks claim first win

Northamptonshire celebrated their first win of this season's Friends Life t20 after coasting to a nine-wicket victory over Glamorgan at the SWALEC Stadium.

James Middlebrook: Took three wickets

The Steelbacks, bottom of the Midlands, Wales and West Group, dominated with ball and bat against a disappointing Glamorgan side who now have it all to do to qualify for this year's knockout stages.

It was Northamptonshire's slow bowlers who laid the foundations for victory with Con de Lange (three for 15) and James Middlebrook (three for 16) limiting their hosts 110 for nine off their 20 overs.

And that target was always going to be within the sights of the visitors with skipper Alex Wakely making batting look far easier as he hit a superbly crafted 54 not out to see his side home in just 13.1 overs.

Surrey's top order suffered a dramatic collapse as in-form Hampshire cruised to their fourth successive victory in the South Group at the Ageas Bowl.

Surrey lost Steven Davies to the last ball of the first over, Murali Kartik and Jason Roy in the second and then Rory Hamilton-Brown midway through the third to slump to nine for four after winning the toss.

Zafar Ansari (38 not out) and Gareth Batty (23no) at least prevented a rout with an unbroken 52-run stand for the seventh wicket, but it was not enough.

The visitors never recovered as they were limited to 94 for six from their 20 overs and Hampshire had little difficulty in sweeping past that target, finishing on 95 for three to win by seven wickets with 27 balls to spare as James Vince and Jimmy Adams put on 43 for the first Hampshire wicket until Kartik caused some minor concern in the home camp with three wickets for the addition of just 10 runs.
