Derbyshire emerged triumphant from a tense finale to their LV= County Championship Division One clash with Somerset at Taunton to lift themselves out of the relegation zone and push their opponents into it.
The visitors, who went into the contest lying bottom of the table, had been set a victory target on day three of 244 and began day four on Friday morning on 127 for four.
Richard Johnson was ousted with them having failed to add to that tally, and Alex Hughes, Thomas Poynton and David Wainwright were also later dismissed.
Three of those wickets were taken by Piyush Chawla, who was on five for the innings and 10 for the match.
But Shivnarine Chanderpaul, dropped on 64, remained at the crease and had 72 not out by lunch, with his side on 238 - meaning that while Somerset needed only two more wickets, Derbyshire required just six more runs.
And it was the away side who did the necessary after the interval, reaching 244 without further loss - Chanderpaul ending on an unbeaten 74 - to secure a two-wicket win.
That moved them up to seventh in the table on 116 points, leapfrogging Somerset, who slipped into the relegation places in eighth spot on 115.
Both sides have two games left to play, while Surrey, on 100 points and now bottom, have three more to go.
In Friday's other Division One clash, there was no play on day four between Nottinghamshire - who had needed 211 to win - and champions Warwickshire at Trent Bridge due to rain, with the result therefore being a draw.
The Division Two clash between Hampshire and second-placed Northamptonshire at the Ageas Bowl also ended in a draw on a stop-start final day.
Hampshire's final first-innings wicket added another 30 runs in the morning before the hosts were eventually dismissed for 545 with a lead of 107.
Northamptonshire were 135 for three in their second innings, with David Sales unbeaten on 66, when play ended.
