Mumbai Indians boosted their hopes of reaching the play-off stages of the Indian Premier League as a Kieron Pollard wonder catch set them on their way to a 25-run win over Rajasthan Royals on Monday.

The defending IPL champions, who lost their opening five matches of the campaign, have now won four of their last six to move up the standings.

The foundation for the latest win was set by openers Mike Hussey and Lendl Simmons, both of whom passed 50 to help the Indians post 178-3 from their 20 overs.

West Indian Simmons top-scored with 62 and Australian veteran Hussey cracked 56 as Rajasthan were made to wait until the 15th over before gaining a breakthrough.

Slow left-armer Ankit Sharma removed both men, but captain Rohit Sharma finished the Mumbai innings with aplomb with an unbeaten 40 off just 19 balls.

The Rajasthan reply never gained momentum despite a destructive 24-ball 48 from opener Karun Nair.

India spinners Harbhajan Singh and Pragyan Ojha shared four wickets but it was Pollard's remarkable catch to remove Kevon Cooper which turned the game.

Fielding at long-on, Pollard somehow caught the ball one-handed on the rope, threw it back over his head with momentum taking him over the boundary before turning round and diving full length to gather for a second time.

That moment of brilliance left Rajasthan tottering on 61-4 and despite some late hitting from James Faulkner (31no) and Brad Hodge (40), Rajasthan fell well short.
