Marcus Trescothick hit a century as Somerset claimed a seven-wicket victory following a weather-affected final day of their LV= County Championship Division One match against Durham at the County Ground.

The former England batsman impressed with 133 off 129 balls in 141 minutes at Taunton in a hit which included four maximums and 20 boundaries in his side's 250 for three total, while Ryan Pringle claimed two wickets for 94 runs in Durham's attack.

The hosts, who resumed on 112 without loss, saw Trescothick reach his ton in the morning session before they lost fellow opener Johann Myburgh five runs after reaching his half-century - ending a 165-run first-wicket partnership - when he was run out by Pringle.

That was three runs before the heavens opened, with the rain forcing the players off the pitch for close to four hours.

Following a pitch inspection at 1445, a tea break was called for 1510 and play finally resumed at 1545 despite a soggy outfield.

The home side lost number three Nick Compton for a duck early after the resumption as Pringle claimed his wicket lbw to leave Somerset on 173 for two and needing another 44 runs for victory.

That brought Alviro Petersen to the crease and a 41-run third-wicket stand between himself and Trescothick meant Somerset had victory in their sights.

Pringle finally claimed Trescothick's wicket as the Somerset opener was caught at long off by Gordon Muchall to leave his side needing 34 runs, which was no problem for Petersen (34 not out) and James Hildreth (11 no) who saw the hosts across the line.
