Nepal marked their World Twenty20 debut with a thumping 80-run win over fellow tournament rookies Hong Kong in Chittagong.

Hong Kong never threatened to chase down Nepal's 149 for eight as they were bundled out for 69 in 17 overs.

Slow left-arm duo Basant Regmi (three for 14) and Shakti Gauchan (three for nine) ripped through the Hong Kong tail as they lost their last seven wickets for 11 runs.

Nepal's total was built around an 80-run stand for the third wicket between Gyanendra Malla (48) and captain Paras Khadka (41).

Nepal could have scored even more but for losing four wickets from the final four balls of the innings - including two run outs - as Haseeb Amjad finished with three for 25.

Nepal will next meet tournament hosts Bangladesh on Tuesday with the winner likely to progress from Group A and into the Super 10 stage.

Bangladesh beat Afghanistan by nine wickets earlier on Saturday. Only the top side from the group will progress to meet India, Pakistan, Australia and defending champions West Indies.
