The left-handed opening batsman, who is rapidly mounting a case to represent Australia at Test level, celebrated his 22nd birthday in style with four sixes and six fours at the SCG.

Skipper Steven Smith made a quick-fire 22 from 24 balls to help the Sixers on their way.

And then the partnership of England international Ravi Bopara (27 no) and Moises Henriques (28 no) guided the pink side of the city to the winning target of 167 runs with 10 balls to spare.

The Sixers won the toss and Smith made the tactical move of chasing down the target on a difficult looking wicket.

Thunder sprinted out of the blocks to make their highest score in the tournament of 166 from their 20 overs thanks almost entirely to the two opening batsmen.

Man-of-the-moment David Warner, who scored two centuries in the first three Ashes Tests against England, continued his wonderful summer by smashing 50 of 31.

He was helped at the crease by Pakistani-born Aussie batsman Usman Khawaja, who made 66 off 51 in what proved to be an innings of two halves.

They were 116 without loss after 11 overs, but lost six wickets for 50 runs thanks in large to the bowling of Henriques (2-24).

Despite losing Michael Lumb (4) and Mark Cosgrove (6), the Sixers had too much firepower in their batting line-up and blasted their way to victory in comfortable fashion to make it four wins out of four against their cross-town rivals.
